The rim is huge. When i work with kids I always say âshoot it UPâ. Straight at the rim way less chance at going in from deep
Coach Odom never lied
Total coaching move right? Backhanded compliments sorta kinda
Canât tell me Tony canât find 5-8 minutes from Rohde to Eli. The lack of usage is just absolutely perplexing.
Not a Rohde hater. Just believe Eli is a better rebounder and has a better offensive game. Rohde a better dribbler. But would bet Eli is as good or better defensively too.
Everyone around our seats last night was also confused as to why Eli didnât play.
Just donât see what the downside would be to give Eli a few of Rohdeâs minutes.
Go Hoos. Play free. Have FUN. Beat State.
Itâs not dribbling. Itâs facilitating. Assists and hockey assists (offensive momentum and flow). Rohde in allows Reece to play more as a scorer while Rohde plays pg. And then Reece can sttill rack up assists when he drives and is being more aggressive and kicking out when the defensive collapses or finding minor when his man comes to help. Rohde has an ENORMOUS gap over Gertrude in this aspect.
When we were down 10, the next 8 points came off of Rohde and his passing/setting people up in positions to score and attack)
Rohde also just moves really well and is a really good defender. Gertrude is still sped up and jumping at pump fakes etc. etc.
The downside is that those minutes would styme our offense since they were sagging a lot while letting the other team cavalanche us.
Thats not what @plegard said though
It kinda is though. That secondary ball handler is too vital for what tony does. Rohde went out and boom 11-7 becomes 22-11 GT.
He has nowhere near a better offensive game, at least in what he displayed in his games. And he was quite frequently lost on defense as well. He might be better on a break than Rohde but thatâs ms about it at this point.
I would think after Eli played against like AnM and Memphis etc he would benefit from some minutes against lowly GaTech and VaTech
But I am biased. But I also know some things
And I was yelling, âlet it roll, donât pick it up yetâ. He timed it just right.
I think yeah playing time helps with becoming comfortable. But we kinda screwed the pooch with the blowouts and are now in must win now mode.
Playing Gertrude is a gamble unfortunately at this point; the high upside but the low floor with the inability to have any confidence in his 3pt shot and any turnover being disastreous in killing momentum/letting the other teams come back.
Even without the shaky ball handling both VT and GT gave us scares near the end. Imagine one or two more opportunities for them to continue their runs.
I would say not playing one of your most talented players is a much bigger gamble. But you are right. We are in must win territory
I think Gertrude would have been really succesful vs Virginia tech with the opportunites there for his driving to the rim. It was clear where Gertrude could have had an impact.
Vs Georgia Tech I think we lose if we try to work in Gertrude in his current state, especially with how letting Reece focus on being a scorer/driver with Rohde taking top of the key passing pg role was so key to unleashing Reece and also giving McKneely more opportunities off Reece being aggressive. And getting flustered in a road environment.
Itâs potential. You can have all the athleticism and jellyfam handles you want, but value in terms of being successful for the team is in the 3pt shot and vision.
Rohde ainât anywhere near perfect. But unfortunately or fortunately he fits the bill with this specific roster in itâs current state.
Tough to argue when we win for sure
I have no idea what âjellyfam handlesâ means but I love it
Yea I let that one go. OG jellyfam was Jjavon Quinerly and crew
jellyfam handles
Theyâre handles for your familyâs jelly. Duh.
Man you could do wonders with that Hinson foto at Puke
