If those waivers are granted and those guys decide to stick around. Thatās a big pick up for the team for next year not having to rebuild the line from scratch again
I know this is all jokes but to be honest it wouldnāt surprise me in the slightest if Arch/Texas decided to mutually part and he hit the open market.
I donāt think weād be players in that recruitment, some other SEC team would take a chance on him but it is interesting that his dad came out and said he wanted Arch to go to UVA.
I actually think we could be in there if we wanted. A place to take the pressure off a bit with recent success with a mobile QB. The other suitors the first time: Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss are all either struggling or set.
I think there is a good chance theyāre looking for a downgrade in spotlight if they leave. Heās not leaving though. And heāll be good next year. Hell he might be good by next week.
Boley burned his redshirt as a true freshman in 2022, so this is currently his fourth season counter. 6 games in ā22, 12 in ā23, and 8 last year in ā24.
The way I understand it, any players who werenāt redshirted on the team in ā22 when the season was cancelled early, the NCAA has been giving them an extra year. That was a counter year for all of Boley, Witmer, and Josey, so I think theyād be in line by that rule.
Other players that might apply to are Xavier Brown, Stevie Bracey, and Will Bettridge.
Definitely expect Arch is on his way out of UT baring a massive turnaround to end the season heās only there because of the family relationship with Sark and itās not working out for a bunch of reasons.
Whatās interesting about a potential Arch recruitment is the Manningās are only letting him play for certain coaches which could weed more than a few potential landing spots. OSU, LSU, UF, Ole Miss all come to mind off the top of my head. Also thinking about it A&M could be a landing spot without knowing their roster.
I type all of that to say that maybe maybe thereās a world where UVa could at least get a serious conversation. But honestly I donāt know if itās worth hitching your wagon to Arch for 2 yrs based on what Iāve seen so far.
I think thatās the question mark. Really feel like this staff views Kaelin as the QB of the future, maybe they would take a chance on Archās talent and upside but idk just feel like theyāre content with what weāve got.
I think Witmer and Josey would both require waivers since they were 2021 recruits, but a good chance theyād be granted.
Honestly I donāt know though, I try to go by how everyone is listed on the roster page and JFās eligibility chart but itās hard to keep track of it all with how many extra seasons players get nowadays.
Weāve got seven young guys who have all seen some action off the bench this season including true freshmen who got in against W&M in IOLs Cole Surber, Grant Ellinger, and Grayson Reid, and tackles Ben York, Dane Wlelinski, Jon Adair, and Jim Harris. Would be nice if, letās say, three of those seven are ready to fill two-deep roles next year.
Take the āreturn (maybe) possibleā veterans Boley, Witmer, Josey, Wyatt, Mills, Thomas, Unamba, Sipe, and Hartsoe⦠say we get back four of those eight.
Then weāre at seven-ish playable going into the off-season. Get 2-3 in the Portal and weāve got a 2-deep.
Agree. In a vacuum I donāt think the staff would prioritize Arch. But I think they almost have to entertain the call if the opportunity is there. Arch is such a strange one especially if the in-house option is Kaelin. As of right now Iām not sure who is the outright winner of that comp given Archās current form. But He does have the higher ceiling.
From an ESPN article about a month ago. Kind of a backhanded reason, but in hindsight given how this season has treated Arch so far maybe his dad was right that a more lowkey place would have done him some good.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Arch is when you listen to his dad and the rest of the family talk about him, they never hyped him up the way he was built up in the media. This isnāt Deion hyping his son, theyāve always been a little guarded about his potential and I think weāre seeing exactly why.
I think that has more to do with how the Manningās v. Sanderās handle things. (Btw anyone see that odd Shadeur pantomime???). Whether they believed him to be the next big thing or had tempered expectations, not sure they would have handled things differently.
I havenāt been sold on Kaelin. Think you have to portal either way next year. Someone will take a chance on Manning - easy to convince donors to pony up for him. Would rather find someone mobile and accurate that can game manage regardless of pedigree.
Drew Allar, DJ Lagway, Cade Klubnik, and Nico Imaleava other big names that have been pretty disappointing so Manning isnāt alone but probably was the most hyped.
