It really is shocking. Imagine the staff watching him play in the first few practices after dropping that big of a bag.
It mightâve been so bad that it drove our head coach to quit. Duke epically Trojan Horseâd us with him
Does Power have 20 points on the season? I donât even think so
12 points.
Duke- last laugh and laughing hardest.
I feel bad for the kid; it must feel terrible being such a disappointment to your team.
Yes, I know he is getting $$$. It probably makes him feel more guilty.
Incredibly, he had better terrible stats at Duke last year on 4 less minutes per game. Seems we didnât help matters with our offense!
For those wondering if they saw a familiar face in stripes last night that was Eric Lewis who resigned/retired from the NBA in 2023 after issues with his social media account.
19 years in the NBA - considered one of the best had a hubbub about a burner account on Twitter.
And now he has to deal with TV teddy. Thoughts and prayers⊠(j/k - I kinda like tv Teddy)
There was a time not long ago when Tony would have redshirted Power, and then not played him his second year either, and the fan base would have been absolutely losing their minds bc this 5-star is on the bench not playing
I believe I was one of the last people on this board that was still hopeful Powers would pan out, but I have entirely conceded to his naysayers. Isnât it a little inexplicable how he could be such a miss? Received 5 star evaluation, was recruited by Tony, had a year a Duke - how did this happen, lol
TJP has 32, but sadly 12 seemed plausible enough.
Tony Bennettâs shoddy recruiting (post-2019) is the reason UVA is in this mess.
He identified some talent and landed it, but they just didnât turn out well here â or left before they developed.
Abdur-Rahim, Morsell, and Milicic have averaged or are averaging double figures for P5 schools; Shedrick is just short of that in Austin; and Traudt is starting to play well in Omaha (four of his last five games heâs been in double figures).
Right. But thatâs the folly of trying to be a development program in todayâs game.
We have some players, actually several, that are going to be develop into damn good players for P5 teams. If they all stay at UVA, the Wahoos might be really good in the near future. But there is no guarantee of that happening & we have to sit through throw away seasons to MAYBE get a payoff.
Oh boo hoo for us. One bad year in a dozen. Lucky to have gotten so spoiled.
Can you give him points for hitting the backboard? Still might not.
Then whatâs the point in calling out âshoddyâ recruiting â unless you mean portal recruiting rather than HS recruiting?
Shoddy seems strong, but post-2016 HS recruiting fell off severely.
Who was the best HS recruit post 2016 class? (That is, the Dre, Ty, Kyle, Huff class). Iâd say RD or Reece. And where would they rank in our 2010-2016 classes? Behind Joe, Malc, Justin, all of 2016, probably Tobey.
So the best recruit in the latter half of his recruiting career wouldâve been what? Like the 9th or so best in the first half?
Maybe I split the baby like this:
- We fell from being a top 10 program because HS recruiting fell off, but we recruited well enough to be like a top 20-25 or so program (maybe)
- But we couldnât be a top 20-25 program because Tony and staff couldnât figure out a good portal or overall roster strategy to match the new rules and practices
- And the bad portal strategy complicated our HS recruiting efforts
Iâve also been mulling over a theory that the recruiting fall off that happened paradoxically at the same time as our on court performance skyrocketed was caused by us losing a PR battle that Tony never acknowledged we were even fighting. (Which is why so many of our fans think the media hates us)
Akil, London, Devon Hall, Mamadi, Wilkins. Iâd put all above Dunn in terms of UVA production.
