Man, I had a love/hate/love relationship with that guy. So awesome / so frustrating
Legit forgot all about Damonās. I think the ribs were ok⦠maybe
I love Aaron and think he gets a raw deal in UVa history, but that play stands out in my mind and still haunts me nearly 20 yrs later.
I think thereās a legit argument for any of the 1990 (before Moore and McGonagle injuries), 1995 and 1998 teams being the best in school history. 2019 and 2025 are behind them.
If you gave me the 2019 defense and STs before Hallās injury with the 2021 offense plus Perkins, thatās the best assembly of Broncoās talent. And that still wouldnāt beat any of the 90, 95 or 98 teams.
Based on talent alone, 2025 probably isnāt up there with any of those teams. We just have a lot of 5th, 6th and 7th year players who have a lot of experience, more developed bodies and really know ball. There might be 1 NFL draft pick on the team. Maybe a few fringe 7th rounders if they pop in testing.
The common thread is that every single one of those teams lost games they shouldnāt have to teams they were better than. I donāt know, would you like this team more if they beat NC State and lost to Louisville and maybe FSU? Win and lose the ones we should? Or pull some great upsets, but also lay some eggs?
One of the first UVA games I can remember truly upsetting me.
Poor Todd Braverman
The run from 95-98/99 is the deepest and most talent rich Virginia teams Iāve seen. Iād put any various mixes of those teams against anything UVa has trotted out including the 88-90 run.
Thatās a helluva question. Iām fine with how the current season is breaking down. Of course Iād love for the team to win that NC State game, but theyāve already met expectations for the year and are close to exceeding them.
- Not sure about the Cig extension but if he blows out VT I would give him some fat stacks. I want to beat the crap out of them and then light the pile of corpses on fire. Lord knows we are so overdue for this.
Iām still annoyed by that 7-5 game a week after beating FSU
Donāt forget the ā94 team. Went 8-3 in the regular season, then won the Independence Bowl and I think finished #17 or 18.
If our 1996 team had simply average QB play instead of Tim Sherman and a not yet ready Aaron Brooks, that could have been our best team ever. One of the best defenses in program history and senior year Tiki Barber at RB with Thomas Jones as his spell.
I worked at that hotel from 2007 - 2015. When I was hired, Damonās had changed names to First Place Grill. Still had all the big screens and such, could still smoke inside, etc.
Not too long after I was hired, they underwent a major renovation. A ballroom and other meeting space took the place of where Damonās/First Place Grill was, and the restaurant was moved to where the front desk used to be. Re-named to Emmetās, completely changed the vibe from dark dingy sportsbar with a lot of locals, to mainly catering to hotel guests and such. A few TVs in there but no more massive screens.
I also remember folks saying that Gillen hung out there post-coaching
All in on Tony.

Looks like JF put out a '27 football commit bat signal this morning.
95 was a brutal season indeed- that team was most talented team we ever had. In the big (pun intended) What if department- GW was close to closing on Jonathan Ogden (HOF LT) in 1991 until the big guy went out west to UCLA and fell in love with sunny SoCal. Put Ogden in at LT on the 95 team and we win the Natty- go undefeated.

2027 three star Safety Derek Fisher commits to the Hoos. #14 player in the state of VA according to 247, from Bethel HS in Hampton.
This is the third Derek Fisher Iām aware of thatās an athlete, and the second that will be playing for UVA.
We are cooking in the 2027 class. Very encouraging start

Iām starting to get a bad feeling. Offense could be rough.
