Wolf I mean I get it but still. I havenāt watched ND play since the week after they lost to NIU so I have no idea how theyāve looked in the last 6 or 7 weeks. Off hand I know the defense will be stout and just looking at scores it seems they figured out their offensive hiccups.
Edit: Looking at their schedule ND has feasted on bad teams this year. Only ranked games were opening with A&M, Navy, and Louisville and Louisville gave them the best game of the year outside of A&M and NIU.
Not saying they are Pitt level overrated but ND might be getting extra love.
Really good run game, very stout front 7, and an elite secondary that might be the best in the country. We know what Riley Leonard is at this point, good dual threat QB who can struggle if youāre able to box him into being a pocket passer. ND is likely a step above Clemson but we also played like shit against the Tigers for the most part.
If we can do what NIU and UL did, limit NDās run game and force Leonard into throwing more than heās comfortable with while also establishing the run/controlling the clock on the other side of the ball, weāll have a shot. Otherwise itāll be a long day.
Also canāt turn the ball over three times like UL did, but that goes without saying lol.
That makes sense, itās coming back to me. I watched most of that NIU game and you nailed it on Leonard struggling when he forced to be a pocket passer. Heās definitely flappable. A&M was bit by the turnover bug as well when they played ND.
One of those games where Des is going to have to go against his instincts and stick with the rushing attack even when the ND front 7 bottle them up because if the game is left in ACās hands against that defense it will get ugly.
Yup this is what Iām concerned about, we struggle with the run game early and Des gets discouraged and pivots to intermediate passes for the rest of the game. Thatās an easy way to have a shit ton of three and outs/turnovers against NDās defense.
Have to stick to the run, take advantage of ACās ability to gain chunks of yards on the ground and try to wear their defense down.
Iād like to take Virginia and the points, but even at +20ā¦ thereās too much of a chance that ND just busts this open. Even if we hang in there, theyāre gonna wear us down.
Hope we can make a game of it, but āplay well and donāt get injuredā would be a good outcome in my view.
Exactly. Iād like to see a heavy dose of read options draws etc. Keep AC involved in the rushing attack and run him often if he goes down so be it. He also CANNOT take those unforced sacks running into touch rather than throwing the ball away. This game is going to require AC to play his headiest game yet.
Notre Dames defense is what makes this a tough matchup. Front 7 is talented and secondary is ELITE. Going to have to stick to the run game, which coming off Pitt is the most encouraged Iāve been so far.
Just looking at it if I was picking a 6th win, Iād go with SMU. All 3 remaining will be tough. But also Elliott has a way of finding a way to win games you donāt think they can in the lead upā¦
Iām going and likely have extra tickets. Lmk if yall are interested or know anyone.
Can we borrow the NIU coach and that one stud tailback just for this game? We run wishbone with that big QB that takes the non sneaks and NIU guy plays Pace and X
Iād actually be 100% okay with that
Is that the end of his career, or could he / would he petition for a 7th year?
Iām not sure if they mentioned a medical waiver/redshirt. Iād hope heād just hang the cleats and start life. He was solid when he played
Ditto, but Willettās quote (which admittedly may have been paraphrasing) was that heād miss the remainder of the season, but nothing about the end of his career. Just hate to see him go out like that, would love to see him go out big.
I am amazed that no one has trained this out of him. My girlfriend couldnāt understand why I was apoplectic the last game watching him repeatedly lose 1-2 yards everytime he was flushed instead of throwing it away, and I wanted to explain that we canāt afford to do that when our margins are so tight as is but was robbed of the capacity for speech until she walked away shaking her head. For my relationshipās sake, please throw it away!
