I think the argument could be made that Virginia Men’s Basketball program may offer the best developmental opportunities for long-term success. What say you? Please respect the different opinions and comments. That’s what keeps the information, content, and threads flowing.
I think Virginia development is great… but there are other great ones out there as well… Villanova and Gonzaga I can think off the top of my head. I think Mick Cronin is up there too… I’ll always say Tony is the best, but overall there are other really good ones.
I agree with those you listed and would add Painter also.
… I forgot Greg Gard… he does more with less at Wisconsin just like Tony does.
I also hope that Mike Young can do the same w/ Virginia Tech that he did at Wofford… then our rivalry in basketball will be epic.
When you consider Tony, Williford coaching Bigs, Curtis as strength coach, ACC competition, facilities and academics, UVA has a lot to offer.
I hope VT sucks forever, and we continue to beat them like a drum.
I haven’t followed him too closely.
I do to a point, but in that situation, is it really a rivalry anymore? I’d rather they be good and we still kick their butts annually.
I think so. They won 15 straight in football and still seemed to get up for that game every year. Every Hokie I know cared about the UVa football game more than any other.
This. So, so much this. I wish nothing good on that school, it’s programs or it’s delusional fan base.
I can see that… but only UVa and VT fans cared at that point… I would rather have the DUke-UNC national coverage than… oh UVa football can’t beat VT to save their lives… that’s not getting GameDay.
Edit: Our recruiting can only improve with a more viable head-to-head competitive rivalry with VT no matter your personal opinions on the school.
I would love to add Joseph Sharpe Head Athletic Trainer from the Charlotte Hornets and USA Basketball. He is from Bedford, Virginia and still has family residing there. He’s a great guy and very, well-respected in the NBA. I’m not sure how interested he would be but he would be a great addition.
I agree with you. I want Tech to be good enough that it matters when we beat them but not good enough to ever seriously challenge for an ACC crown or sweep us. So basically where they were the last 2-3 years of the Buzz era.
I would add Texas Tech. Culver had a similar trajectory as Dre and was lightly recruited I believe.
True! He leaves no stone un-turned while building that program. Blending transfers and lightly recruited players.
As I was told by a young alumnus in Atlanta at the ACC tournament in 1989 “If you choose Virginia it will change your Life”.
Thats the best I can say
There’s a lot tobe said for that pitch
overall CTB may get more out of less than any coach in the country. I give props to Izzo too MSU doesn’t have Duke or UK type recruits but they are always good and he gets the most out of every player
Yes, he does. He almost seems like a Bobby Knight who’s methods for doing so, i would question today.
Knight was and is an ass hole but he did get teams to produce for a while. I’ll give him credit for that.
