šŸ€ Virginia Transfers Watch - '23 - '24 Season

Hereā€™s my view on this and of course itā€™s the definitive view.

Could Kadin or Papi help the current team? Sure.

Do they raise the overall ceiling of this group? Slightly but Iā€™d still peg them 6-8ish seed vs 7-9. So lots of what ifs there.

Does their presence help the long term prognosis of the program? Not really. I like blooding all these young guys and turning a fresh page for the program. I believe the reset was needed for players coaches and fans. To hold on to a few vestiges of the past with no real significant upside is allowing ourselves to be held prisoners by nostalgia.

All the best to the Face Mauler and World Softest 5. Thanks for your service and good luck on your future endeavors. But thereā€™s a new crew in town.

I canā€™t do better than @lodger96 did above.

Could Shedrickā€™s strengths have helped us this year? Sure they could.

Was his presence (not assigning blame on anyone) creating a problem for the team culture that Tony and staff want? I think so.

Sometimes you get an individual contributor that is gifted AND is toxic to the team culture. Itā€™s painful to be without them, but itā€™s more deleterious to be with them.

Navelgazing about the things you miss in their absence without acknowledging the baggage is just cherry-picking and it moves you nowhere.

He gone. Lotsa luck to him. Best thing now is to turn the page and focus on our guys.

lol cā€™mon now. Thinking he was misused and voicing that thought publicly does not equate to hating someone

Given the number of times has ā€“ and will probably continue to ā€“ complain to reporters and podcasters about Tony AND the Virginia program he clearly holds a grudge towards Tony. The fact that he will not stop suggests strong emotional issues, which ā€“ I think quite clearly ā€“ show he hates TB. Yes. Why else would he persist?

Edit: This is off topic. The original suggestion was that we were a final-four contender with him. As I said, there is NO evidence that this is remotely true. I simply mentioned his attitude as one part of why this assertion is false.

Just, for the record, I wouldnā€™t characterize any of this as accurate, although the definition of ā€œdragā€ is certainly up for interpretation, I donā€™t believe giving his opinion on his role and why he left is that. He certainly doesnā€™t hate UVa. I think this is much more an example of ā€œdraggingā€ a player than anything he said about the program.

Iā€™m seeing a lot of assumptions about there being a toxic attitude or locker room situation. CTB didnā€™t just let him walk and decide to move on, he actively tried to keep him on the team and convince him to returnā€¦ and CTB doesnā€™t do that for players that are toxic.

Hereā€™s just what Iā€™d say and really the most relevant part for us as fans of the program. The Shedrick situation is unique because itā€™s one where we both wanted to keep the player, didnā€™t, and where that outcome was probably avoidable (unlike the Traudt situation, most likely). So, while thereā€™s plenty of ā€œfaultā€ for that on all sides, there are things that I think we can (and I believe we will, I think the addition of Sanchez goes a long way toward that) learn from it. I can safely say there wasnā€™t ill-intent anywhere - it was just differences of the best way to proceed and communication issues.

Itā€™s not about holding a grudge, itā€™s about feeling the need to push back on the narrative that was created about his utilization.

You are minimizing the situation, and yes I know that for a fact.

But the issue ā€“ again ā€“ is does Shedrickā€™s presence on the team make us a final four-team?

None of what you typed in this post even comes close to qualifying as hating someone. Being dissatisfied with a situation does not mean you hate someone. Thinking a dynamic has run its course does not mean you hate someone. Voicing those feelings also does not mean you hate someone. I assume you are going for hyperbole but none of anything Kadin or his Sabre posting parent have said remotely resembles hate

Sometimes in life things just donā€™t work out.

Thatā€™s how I view the Shedrick situation. I put him in the same category as Morsell and Traudt and Nichols. I could list a lot of other players with this list, but whatā€™s the point? We can play the ā€œwhat ifā€ game, but why?

There was a guy in the program who showed potential and flashes, but was also frustrating and didnā€™t seem to develop. Itā€™s not some exciting story or even a unique situation. It happens all the time.

It wouldā€™ve been nice, but it didnā€™t work out. Move on.

Okay. You are right. Shedrick meant no harm trashing the entire Virginia basketball program. Also, had we been fortunate enough to retain him and bend to his every demand, then clearly would go to the final four this yearā€¦no doubt! Remarkable.

Edit: I am sorry for getting emotional, but I ā€“ me, personally ā€“ think what he did was reprehensible and lacked humility and class. Also, I donā€™t think things are very different without him

ā€˜Mean no harmā€™ and hate are not the only two options lol not suggesting you need to be happy about Kadinā€™s public statements. Or that you should agree weā€™d be better with him or the team this year. But he hasnā€™t said or done anything that indicates he hates TB or UVa

Papi leads his team in rebound % and assist %. 2nd in block %. 3rd in PER.
You mean something like that is missed?

Probably leads his team in screen assists too

Please address the original assertion rather than fighting me about Shedrickā€™s lack of class.

No because I donā€™t care about an unprovable hypothetical. Itā€™s irrelevant at this point. I do care about someone accusing a former player of hating TB without basis

Does it really matter if the team is considerably better with said player on the floor almost every single time.
My best striker on my 12U soccer team was probably the laziest player on the team. He also created about 40-50% of our legit scoring chances every game he played, for himself and others. He was fast and unselfish with the ball. But was not a great practice player at all. We went undefeated and won the league and led the league in goals. Yes we also led the league in fewest goals allowed. But he put the fear of God In opposing defenders.
I learned to live with certain idiosyncrasies for the good of the success of the team.

YES, thank you. If you would have read more carefully you would have seen that I took your position! It IS an unproveable hypothetical, but that was the point I was originally trying to make Then you come along laughing at me because I commented on Shedrickā€™s attitude. That was NOT the original question/issue, but you continued to suggest that was the only point I was trying to make AND you seem to think that hypothetical was my assertion in the first place. Could it be that you decided to condescend to me ā€“ and laugh at me ā€“ because I am a woman? Others here do not treat me that way. Itā€™s just wrong.

So anyways Malachi Poindexter is having a good year. Happy for him.

10 teams before us had as bad a rebounding game as we just had. 1 was a tournament team (10seed) and finished 10-10 in the Big 12. They finished 229th in rebound % that year. 1 other was Covid year and would have made the tournament. 213th in rebounding %
Can we be one of those 2 teams? Or more like the other 8?
