šŸ€ Virginia vs Campbell, W, 65-56, 1-0 (0-0 ACC), Wednesday, 6 November 2024, 1900, ACCNX

Observations:

  1. We don’t seem nearly as hesitant to shoot early in possessions, which I love.

  2. The pace seems about the same, maybe a tad faster, but not by much.

  3. The spacing is better, partially because of the offense and partially because we have more shooters on the floor.

  4. A couple of times I couldn’t tell if we were intentionally not hedging defensively or just hedging very poorly/late.

  5. Cofie and Sharma…. yes please!

  6. Still no offensive rebounding….

After the scrimmage box scores, I do feel comfortable saying this team can shoot. Maybe not Rohde, but if he’s the PG it matters less. A timetable on Bliss’s return would impact how I feel about Dai Dai’s apparent lack of PT.

Hopefully Bliss is just recovering from injury and can factor into the Pg spot soon. Rhode isn’t it. Would rather see Dai Dai get more run too

Yeah, this team/coach is gonna take some getting used to.

Future NBA player is my way too early hot take

He’ll get us a new coach. No upside for this team with him logging extended minutes at any position.

Could be up 20, Campbell made 3 difficult 3s and one or two acrobatic shots in the lane. Most of our looks have been clean. We will hurt defensively all year, we do not have a 1st/2nd/3rd team all ACC defensive player.

You can see the vision TB had for this team, probably a REALLY good, top 10-15 roster in 2025-2026 pending what we added in the portal. There’s talent here, it’s young but it seems like we hit on our first years with Cofie and Sharma. Couple other guys who don’t look much improved from last year but will give them time, it’s only one half.

It’s unfortunate for Ron who needs this team to be good NOW, and I’m assuming it’s gonna be hard to keep this core together regardless of who our coach is next year. Hopefully we find something that works consistenly and get in enough of a groove to sneak into the tourney, doubt it happens but will say the offensive sets look much better than last year.

No alternative.

How different would things feel if we had Elijah? I feel like he’s EXACTLY what this squad is missing.

I will hear no slander of Rohde, our future All-ACC PG.

Thought the same thing. smh

I think the right coach can come in here and retain enough of the core. We pay well and if it’s an exciting hire with the right vision I could see enough guys sticking around to bridge the gap. Maybe wishful thinking

Rhode was more efficient than dai dai. Would love bliss to be the guy.

So much better. Elijah would give us 1 (one, uno) player who can create off the dribble

Cofie’s going to slide right into Grant Osobor’s $2.1 million deal at Washington next year.

Wonder if we’ll see Robinson.

And defend the peremiter. Will be a major issue this year.

We’ll see, I hope so but the transfer portal is ruthless and we do have talent on this roster that other squads will be throwing absurd bags at to poach.

But it’s the first game of the season, so no sense in me dooming about it this early lol.
