So the best Doug Smith to ever play in Cville will be tomorrow night?

(I only burn friends–and friendly internet interlocutors–take it as a compliment!)

No, and please don’t rub it in. I point to not subscribing every time I tell my wife she shouldn’t buy that cute new outfit. ā€œLook at the great things I forgo for our family!ā€

Wasn’t there some chatter a while back about free VIP for life for rushdacote for the all the Euro trip intel?

Y’all are funny. I learned it from @Hooandtrue who says it all the time and the one time in my entire life I use it (semi-jokingly), it’s a topic of discussion

This Doug Smith was opposing Campbell sadly. Man imagine having such a unique name back in the building some day though!

Ah I got you. No worries, you have definitely done a lot to help out around here. I’ll offer up a freebie for some extended discussion…

As far as stock down would go with the coaching change, the biggest faller is currently looking for a new team. Stock up? Well, one is presumably going to start tomorrow and there’s a direct correlation to the one leaving.

Another, Saunders, is a Sanchez guy as he’s mentioned in some interviews. But I don’t think anyone doubted he’d be a major contributor.

Also, the 2 first years are Sanchez guys. Stock up relative to general expectations for first years…

Again Rush thanks for all you do. And to anyone else seeing this who may not be VIP, there is plenty of great info all year long. And there’s an Arby’s thread.

That Arby’s thread is Sizzlin this SZN.

Some things I’ll be watching for:

  • Where does the ball go in late shot clock situations? I.e. Who can create their own shot?
  • Can anyone outside of Dai Dai touch the paint with the ball?
  • Do we have rim protection when Blake is on the bench?

Bowl of soup? How about something from Arby’s?

One more thing. Curious where the pace of the game ends up. Last year our adjusted tempo was 60 possessions/game (point of clarification: this doesn’t mean we averaged 60 possessions/game, rather that against an average tempo team, we would be expected to play a 60 possession game). If both teams play to their projected tempos, I’d expect low-to-mid 60s for the possession count.

How many people will tune in and say, ā€œWhat? Tony isn’t the coach anymore?ā€

Before you dismiss it, searches yesterday for ā€œDid Biden drop outā€ spiked.

I know plenty of casual hoops fans who don’t pay any attention whatsoever in the offseason, they just tune in at the start of the season and figure it out from there.

Usually, the answer is a lot in the first game. But the box scores from scrimmages and Warley departure have given us more clues on the rotation that we are used to getting under Tony.

I also think that Ron and the team are probably still having a feeling out process that makes the first game less meaningful than it often is.

Some things we will learn:

  • Taine’s role
  • Clues on Cofie’s role
  • How much of the changed offense chatter shows up in practice (meaning, in the games)

I’m afraid the answer is going to be ā€œa lotā€ because we struggle and it tells us everything we need to know about the rough season ahead.
