Doesnt sound like they actually dont Go to Class to me

Thank goodness

I think you’d have to go back pretty far to find a true frosh who scored in double figures in both of his first two games.

He was an opportunistic 3pt shooter in HS. He has a nice shot but probably only took 1-2 per game. The nice thing is he isn’t necessarily trying to become an outside l-in player. He knows he’s more effective near the hoop. I love his shot quality from deep thus far. He’ll always have the green light to take shots like those.

I’m interested to see how Cofie plays inside against bigger bodies.

Free throws:

Buchanan, McKneely, Rohde, and Murray are 10-18, and each has missed at least one attempt.

Saunders, Cofie, and Ames are 12-12.

The transfers and first years haven’t been bewitched by last year’s bad juju

Mac is 4-5. Let’s not lump him in with that group. Also, taking him out, that group…

ā€œNot giving up on Power. We’re 2 games in, and one was against a goofy matchup zone. Not to mention the drama w CTB snap resigning, and with what I have to assume is a blizzard of soft inquiries to our guys re interest in transferring. Power apparently can shoot lights out. Let’s get a better sample size before concluding he can’t do it in games. He showed some moxie on the boards last night. And he’s capable of handling the ball, and is a good passer. Check back with me in a month. And the same on all the other new guys.ā€

So far TJ looks like he is running a mile a minute on defense. He is running, not sliding. He is using his hands too much when he gets beat, and his close outs are very late. You can actually see him thinking instead of reacting.

Having said that, he plays with passion. He throws elbows when he rebounds to defend the ball (unlike a few of our other guys who have had the ball stripped under our own basket), he is a very good passer, and his shot form looks pure.

Believe he will be an excellent player when the defensive light goes on. Probably after the New Year.

Still a believer in TJ. Go HOOS!

But for now, the 5 starters vs Villanova should be Dai Dai, iMac, Saunders, Cofie, Blake. These are the 5 best players through 2 games.

Also, think Cofie, Blake and Saunders should switch on D at the 3/4/5 rather than hard hedge or run through screens.

One more thing on Cofie. On the now infamous Zoom call with Donors the day before Tony announced his retirement, Tony was asked what players he was excited about. Tony mentioned Saunders, Blake, iMac, Warley and (Kyle Guy added) Sharma.

I followed up and asked if he could talk about Cofie because Jacob had looked pretty good on both ends in the Blue / White scrimmage. Tony said something like ā€œyeah, I forgot about him. He looks like he has potential down the roadā€ (paraphrasing). In other words, Tony wasn’t even really considering Cofie. Cofie was somewhat of an afterthought to Tony.

Perhaps Ron Sanchez, as Cofie’s lead recruiter, has unleashed Jacob more than Tony would have, and saw more in Cofie than Tony did.

So maybe Ron is as good a talent evaluator as Tony.

That’s my optimistic post of the day.

Go HOOS!. Beat Villanova.

Definitely a joke but definitely some truth in it… if you watch their eyes… Saunders, Cofie and Ames all just walk up and take their FTs. Everyone from last year is thinking about it when they walk up to the line and there is a bit of angst in their faces.

The flag flasher strikes again.

Starters: Soph, Junior, Frosh, Junior, Soph
Bench: Junior, Soph, Frosh

Thinking about the number of 4th and 5th years we’ll be up against (COVID relief still in effect), it’s remarkable the way we’re asking these guys to play ahead of schedule.

Yes, I read that comment by Saunders the same way. But Cofie has a beautiful shot so maybe they will continue to go in for him. Last night when he reached out and stole that ball, my mind immediately went to Ryan Dunn.

Jacob seems very disruptive on D so he probably has a pretty nice wing span. I am still trying not to get too excited until I see him against a team with guys as tall as him.

Also, I liked Saunders comment about Power’s shooting prowess. Obviously, he hasn’t carried it to game day, but he apparently has the potential to. He needs to see two in a row drop.

that’s what i hate about this years team is we are soooo young but at the same time it’s a good thing especially if whoever is the next HC can retain most of the guys

Tony’s fault.

Tried to tell people who were thinking Ames’s shot was like Dante’s that their concern wasn’t really warranted. He’s not going to be a 40% shooter but he will be enough of a threat for teams to worry about. We’ve had too few of guys like him, tbh. We either have had elite shooters or guys who just cannot make shots.

A prudent approach, sir. I think it’s safe to say the guy has some talent. He has passed the eye test in a big way. He’s tall. Pretty fluid athlete. Shows a nose for the ball. How his play holds up against taller, stronger, more athletic teams is definitely still a question mark, especially this year (which hopefully isn’t our only year with him), but I feel comfortable saying he’s going to be a good player. I also feel comfortable saying there’s still a very wide range of possible outcomes for just how good. Not that these guys are comparable players but just thinking in terms of total impact, I could see him being anywhere between a Devon hall/key/huff kind of guy and a guy/hunter kind of guy. In other words, maybe he’s gonna be good and maybe he’s gonna be great.

I hope they keep falling for him. I’m definitely not claiming the guy can’t shoot. I just mean the difference between a low 30s shooter and a low 40s shooter might be the difference between good and great, given his other apparent strengths. A 6’10 guy who guards well and finishes well inside who shoots 30% is a pretty solid piece to have and gets to shoot 2 3s a game. The same guy who shoots 40% gets to shoot 4 and is unguardable.

Hey @Hoosthechamp… I’m not sure what you are seeing on your screen, but there is no record of you ever flagging anyone on here. Just FYI!
