You can tell the team loves this Colandrea kid.
Even if Muskett is healthy next week, AC deserves the rivalry game start.

OK, I’ve changed my mind on Elliott. Not because we won, but because of the character that this team shows – in the way they talk, the way they support each other, the way they play. We could just as easily be 7-4 as 3-8. And, yes, coaching mistakes are one reason we’re not. He has to get better. But more and more, I think he’s the kind of guy we want leading the program.
No doubt. The record doesn’t show it, but the team has genuinely played well in 5/6 games, the exception being GT. Losing is never fun, but the team’s play the last 6 games is the kind of play I’ve been HOPING to see all season. It feels like they’re fighting and getting better, rather than just a train wreck.
Maybe CTE will work out, yet. Hardly confident, but it seems possible now.
I feel really good about this win for Tony Elliott. He has dealt with so much and never gave up on his team. He led this program through its darkest hour with pure class.
Kudos to the staff on this one, we looked very prepared, and the calls were great on both sides. I can’t even express how far preventing va tech from going to a bowl game would go for getting the fans back on board.
Great win small crowd which was sad but great win for the program
Malik Washington. 96 catches for 1,311 yards and nine touchdowns. And nine 100-yard games in 11 career UVa games.
What. An. Absolute. Stud.
I wish he had a 13th game this year.
The play calls, not the calls from the refs!
It is truly wild. Coming into tonight he had the second highest yardage total in the country.
I know nothing about this, but might he get drafted? I know the rest of his career hasn’t been stellar, but he looks so good out there. I’m sure he’d get a shot in a team’s camp no matter what, but I’d have to think a team might pick him right?
There are people with pure speed and people with football speed. Washington has football speed in spades. I don’t know if he’ll get drafted but he’ll certainly make a roster.
The two guys whose records he shattered today (Wicks and Zaccheaus) are both in the league. Gotta think Washington will get there, too.
Congrats to Coach Elliott and the team for a hard-earned and well deserved win. It’s clear that the guys want to win for him. Beat the Hokesters and we’ll have some strong momentum leading into the off season.
The other thing that is very clear is that the team has continued to fight and try to win. There’s no doubt the team improved as the season wore on.
The mood and emotion from this group. Is special. CTE has my vote
I’ll say, Coach Elliott and the staff have impressed me with how they’ve kept this group fighting through a super tough season. They’re starting to make me think they could do something here (particularly if they can keep identifying QB talent like they have).
But my biggest concern is honestly recruiting. They’re obviously doing a decent job at finding some diamonds in the rough given what we’ve seen from some of the young dudes, but if they can’t find a way to pick it up a little bit, they may find themselves undermined by just a sheer lack of talent in a year or two. Maybe if we beat VT we can get a little momentum back, but it’s rough.
We won, Tech lost, Carolina lost, JMU got knocked off their high horse and Maryland lost.
Thats about as perfect a day of college football I could ask for.
I was 100% out on Elliott pre UNC game. I can now see the vision. He and his staff have evolved.
With that being said, for me to continue believing you have to start recruiting the HS ranks better imo.
Do those things and I think HS recruiting falls into place and we’re in solid shape long term.
Definitely moved from “fire him now” to “lets see what he can do if we spend money on an oline”. Still a lot of coaching errors and discipline errors. The reason we aren’t 8-3 is because of coaching miscues and execution/penalties. And I still am not convinced Elliot can take uva to be as good as it could be even with the constraints.
But this team has been through the ringer and shown a lot of grit. And Staff are so lucky Lamb got Colandrea and we caught lightening in a bottle.
Yeah I’m in the same boat. I more or less have gone from “out” to “not out”.
How we recruit in HS and transfer ranks this off-season and how the team performs next year will determine where things are going.
Make a bowl and we’re probably cooking. Miss on portal guys and continue recruiting HS poorly and win 2-4 games next year and he’s probably done, or at least a sitting duck.
I’m at least very invested and intrigued by the roster movement this off-season. How we attack the portal and HS recruiting for late signing day guys will be at least noteworthy and interesting.
Pre UNC game I probably would’ve just checked out for that stuff.
As expected, Hokie fans currently having a meltdown over this. Even said “We’re their Super Bowl”.
So much irony in that statement.
