All they have is beating us in football. This is their own superbowl
I’m so happy for those young men who we all know were going thru some painful shyt a year ago.
WAHOOWA!!!
As expected……
Must be nice for Duke fans to think they’re getting screwed when you’re:
(A) On the right side of 12-1 accepted penalties
(B) On the right side of 117-10 in penalty yards
(C) On the right side of a TD review that was originally called incomplete on the field by the closest official and the one with the best view but reversed by an official who wasn’t in position to make the call
(D) On the right side of an incomplete-fumble call because the (shitty) call on the field was incomplete.

Hope we can get Tony some NIL money to keep the guys that the other guys will be after, and to lure some new ones here.
Let me put my vote in for AC to start next week regardless of Muskett’s health. First, he lookes like he belongs. Second, since Tech will undoubtedly play with great passion (what’s new?) he is best equipped to evade that rush. I would also tell him to not be the least bit shy about tucking it (assuming Muskett is available).
If we are healthy Saturday, I think we win.
AC looks a lot more poised than the first 4 games he played when Muskett was injured the first time. Taking a lot better care of the ball, not taking so many huge sacks, not fumbling so much and most importantly not throwing multiple picks a game. He’s converted me, I’m a believer now.
Before the season, I thought the team would go 2-10. Previous season hadn’t gone well, relatively tough schedule, there was massive transition at skill positions, tons of injuries on D, the OL was mostly brand new, and I had no confidence in Kitchings at all.
Then the season started 0-5. There were signs of life but they were invariably followed up by crushing disappointment. The OL was even worse than I feared, Muskett was hurt right out of the gate, and it felt like CTE was losing the team. Going winless felt plausible.
But they won the W&M game and really have built on it. Sure, the GT game was a dud, but they’ve been consistently good in the other 5. If they beat VT, which I still feel is a reach (for historical reasons if nothing else), I’ll genuinely consider the season a success. And not in some half-assed, “lowered expectations from what I expected from them after an 0-5 start” kinda way. I mean, in a “genuinely good, making actual tangible progress toward building a respectable program” kinda way.
They still have to beat VT to get that far, but I’m genuinely shocked that outcome is even on the table.
Just finished watching Coach E’s post game presser, really want that guy to succeed.
From the Recap portion of the Tech game on the ESPN site:
Virginia Tech: Partly because of a soft nonconference schedule, and partly because the bottom half of the ACC is awful this season, the Hokies have played three good teams (Florida State, Louisville and NC State) and lost all three games. They’ll need a win over rival Virginia in the regular-season finale to become bowl eligible.
Same St Lou. Don’t know how any other coach would have handled the adversity he’s faced.
Adam Rowe can eat d…$
Adam Rowe is such a sniveling dbag. I despise that school.
I gotta echo some of the above comments. The fact that these players are still fighting this hard, this late in yet another demoralizing losing season, on top of all the tragedy they’ve suffered off the field, is really, really impressive. Kudos to them, and kudos to the leadership on the team (I suspect Hollins deserves more credit than he already gets). But it all starts at the top. Whatever else he is, Elliott is apparently an exceptional motivator. Honestly, if the recruiting were decent, I’d actually be bullish on Elliott at this point.
Spot on. And recruiting isn’t going well on paper but this class has some ballers. Maybe TE has an eye for talent
I think we rely too much on rankings to judge the recruiting. This year’s class has a promising core of unheralded players – starting with Colandrea. Not many teams were clamoring for Malik, either, and he just turns out to be one of the best receivers in the country.
To use basketball as an example: We’ve got nine players in the NBA, and none of them were considered strong NBA prospects when they came to Virginia. It remains to be seen whether CTE is the evaluator and developer of talent that CTB has proven to be, but there’s some cause to be optimistic.
That’s what I’m leaning towards he snagged Washington in the portal and recruited AC couple guys with solid but not knock your socks off resumes and look at them now.
I also think the culture the staff developed is special. And that will take them far
Rankings still matter and are somewhat predictive of success. More importantly, depth is so critical for a football team (which is why I don’t like the basketball recruiting analogy). Need to have backups / substitutes available and underclassmen developing across the board.
The good news is that TE hit on the QB position and a couple of the skill positions with high impact. Has to fill the roster though with more talent and depth though.
Football is an entirely different beast than basketball though. I do get the point you are trying to make (and how silly rankings can be in general. How are you going to tell me a kid is specifically the #56 recruit in a class? lol) but in football you really do have to stack a lot of talent and the hit rate of 2/3 stars isn’t great.
One thing I will credit TE with is that he’s kept the team together and fighting hard through adversity that few other teams have had to deal with.
I remain highly concerned about the recruiting, and am concerned as to whether he can prevent the young guys that have shown well from being poached in the off season. Hopefully he can make progress in those areas this off season.
What other coach what have fared better considering what he has been thru. He’s done a remarkable job.
Yeah, that’s a worry. During the Duke game the announcers were talking about Kam Robinson and they said CTE asked them not to talk about him too much because he was afraid of losing him in the portal. Now, I’m sure that was more of a joke on his part, and the announcers presented it as such, but probably coming from a real place.
