Had to take a break for parental duties but back now and nice finish for the hoos i have a lot of thoughts about what I saw.

Umm, Tech lost 23 players for tonight’s game but is leading 17 to 0 in the first quarter. Does that say more about vt or ncsu?

That’s the million dollar question. To be far a college team could feasibly lose 25 players and never mess up their 2 deep.
I half expected state to present a decent challenge to a full roster VT. I’m surprised by the ncsu defense. They don’t seem to wrap up very well.

This is thw NCState to play like this last week but they moved the ball decently well. Theor D is bad. Honestly feels like a trend across college football. The lack of live time likely playing a role.

You are probably right. I always thought of the offense as needing more “together“ time than the defense! And tbh I think either of us could be right based on what I’ve seen today.
Ooops, that’s a mountain of a person that just went down. VT might be on the verge of testing your two-person deep notion of how many a team can lose before it hurts.

Alright, glad to finally get around to recapping Saturday’s game. First off shout out to @brogdonfanpage for a great recap.
Saturday was the encapsulation of everything it means to be a UVa fan during the Bronco era. There were moments of absolute frustration and confusion, but there were plenty of glimpses of hope and promise that makes the future look bright.
The offense got off to a slow start, and for basically three quarters it was difficult to watch. Brennan Armstrong had an up and down evening. His stat line tells it all, 24-45 269 yards, 2 TDs 2 picks and rushed for 10 carries 47 yards and 1 TD. To his credit I liked his toughness, he stuck with it, and kept plucking away even when he wasn’t playing well. He’s going to need to maintain that mental toughness as he goes through the growing pains of being a first year starter. There’s tons of promise and hope with Armstrong, but there is certainly work to be done and room to improve. Long term, the throwing motion needs to be adjusted but that is an after season fix.
Going into Saturday, the concern was around the rushing game and could the Hoos produce. W-Top stepped up out the backfield and lead the way 16 carries 95 yards 2 TDs that’s a monster day 5.9 yards per carry. It’s been a while since we saw a Virginia RB put in work like that. He wasn’t alone, Armstrong carried the ball 10 times and Shane Simpson had 8 carries for 36 yards. The online looked great creating huge holes, and running lanes. Virginia is going to need to rely on a true running game this season as Armstrong continues to get his feet under him.
Can’t write about Saturday’s game and not mention Lavel Davis Jr. Welcome to Div 1 football. What a debut 4 catches 2 TDs 100 yards. It felt like watching Billy McMullen all over again.
Defensively the Hoos brought the havoc. Zane Zandier stepped up with 15 tackles, and showed a great nose for getting to the ball and making plays. Throughout his career, he’s shown he had that potential but in the past he was unable to finish a play or would make the wrong read. With another year under his belt, he showed he is not a student of the game with a great understanding of what opponents are trying to do, and he has the size to make an impact when he gets there.
Overall it was a solid win for the Hoos, it’s also a difficult one to measure. Having watched Duke play three times this season, it’s clear they are not a good team, and are struggling. Chase Brice has coughed the ball up 6 times in three games. The Hoos took care of business capitalizing on those mistakes, which is something they have not done in the past. However, the next time they take the field, they will be playing a team that likely will not make any of those mistakes, and Virginia will need to execute better on offense, especially in the passing game and being more efficient.
