Yeah, kind of what I’m saying.
I thought the same.
Me too.
Yeah I think you’re totally right about us still gelling. It’ll take a bit. I think that’s why I am optimistic. Because we’re starting in a solid place right now. I thought it was very possible the first couple of months would be really rough. And it still could be, but it seems like we’re starting in a fine place with a lot of room to get better.
I also agree about keeping the rotation relatively tight, even in games like this week. I think it’s pretty clear we have a top 8 that will play all of the minutes in big games. With an occasional 9th guy maybe in Minor due to matchups or Murray just to see if he can get something going.
I think he said tomorrow morning, on Twitter. Keep this thread open a little longer!
Don’t know what site metrics Zach is referencing with these ratings, but some superlatives being thrown out to Dunn defense (follow up tweet calls out his offense though, says UF was willing to help off of him and even had Handlogton on him but sagging to help in the paint)… but here’s 2 min of Dunn beasting on the defensive end

How do we interpret these numbers. Of course, low is good, but what about the others. Is 100 considered average or is there some other metric?
I had to look it up but a Wikipedia search shows it’s points allowed per 100 possessions. The best NBA defenders have ratings just below 100. The NBA season record individual defensive rating is 87.5.
The low rating is because of Dunn’s steals, but I feel that many of those steals were the result of team defense and not one-on-one defensive steals.
DRTG is a silly “statistic”. Think we’ve become a little too obsessed with needing analytical metrics to tell us whether something is good or bad. There’s simply no good or even relevant way to “calculate” defensive performance.
I was wondering how steal stats work… if Dunn pokes it away and Reece grabs it, the steal goes to Reece?
If for instance Blake knocks the ball off of the defenders knee and it goes out of bounds as a turnover (and doesn’t get overturned for some reason), does Blake get credit for a steal?
Something like this happened in the first possession of the second half against Florida, and Dunn was credited* with the steal in the box score (click to the second half play-by-play):
*On review, it looks to me like McKneely knocked it away.
Actually, I don’t understand how people can focus on social media during games. My whole attention is on the game. The in-game threads seem pretty silly to me. But, then, I’m an old fart. There are a lot of things these days that seem silly to me.
I’m with you on this as a fellow old fart. I try to reduce my anxiety level during games, not increase it with social media.
Completely unrelated minor quibble while watching the replay, at 10:45 how in the hell is that a jump ball? BB clearly secures the rebound and the UF player reaches in for a second and you get an immediate jump ball call. I swear refs default to that all the time instead of calling the foul or just letting it play out, there was another questionable one later in the game too.
In as much as the camera angle prevented any view of the ball, I assumed that the Florida player had both hands on it. I couldn’t say otherwise. There’s no reason to believe the ref got it wrong regardless of how quickly he blew the whistle.
Let’s all move on to the next game… I think the horse is dead.
