I can’t believe this Maryland game is considered Q3… that just shows how much Maryland has fallen recently.
Everyone involved, including Willard, totally fumbled the Willard handoff
All of their prominent alumni and fan base clearly wanted someone who was going to be loyal to Maryland, and then their admin went out and picked the guy who’s well-known to be the least loyal guy in all of college basketball
Haven’t seen anything official, but safe to assume Payne is a no go for our game. Think he really could have given our bigs some issues with his size strength. They still took UM to the wire without him, so we’ll have to be on our toes, esp coming out of a long break. Interestingly, UMD has been off since last Sat, so they might have some rust as well.
It’s a Q4 right now! For context the Marshall game where we scored 104 was a Q3
Duke Heels and Stanford are the only Acc teams with a current winning record vs Quad 1 teams.
Frustrating that this game is a lose-lose. Have to win, really season affecting if we lose. Cant even really brag to Maryland fans with a win because they’re all so checked out.
Maybe we can beat them so bad Baba reopens his recruitment and calls Odom, but after reading his family’s comments after that commitment I’m not hopeful. I will still be surprised if he actually matriculates at Maryland after this season though.
I think it’s funny that in a college sports context if someone says UM, most people’s first assumption is Michigan and not Maryland (UMD), Mississippi (Ole Miss), Missouri (Mizzou), Minnesota (no idea), Massachusetts (UMass), Montana or Maine.
Edit: forgot Miami
Interestingly, while Mizzou is “University of Missouri” they use MU branding in a lot of places. This is their website:
And UM definitely connotes Michigan to me, but I think they actually prefer UMich
Edit: apparently this is because Big 8 schools went by State-U and Big 10 ones did U-State (does this actually hold up? Not sure), and Missouri was originally Missouri State University which led to the “Mizzou” and then they just kept the U at the end. The more you know!
That tracks as far as Kansas (KU) ( as opposed to Kentucky’s UK) and Oklahoma (OU) (as opposed to Oregon(?) being UO). I can’t remember if Nebraska goes by NU, but UN would be…Nevada? Nobody?
