Gameday said Miami avg 7 3s a game and would need more than that to best us. Sitting at z5 now.

Terrible way to end that half

Get it together guys we need to protect the paint a lot better than we have been

He was supposed to switch! He was the closest one there.

Not enjoying this.

I mean they can’t lol. They’re way above their percentage today

Shooting 50/44/100 and down at the half by five lmao

Yea White has been massive on offense but he’s looked rough on defense after I feel like he’s been better the past month

we covered the interior MUCH better last 8 mins. Unfortunately Miami became a good 3 point team somehow. They are usually atrocious. We need to not let it get to us.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. They pinned Hall down. No way he could recover. Gotta be White staying with his man on that read.

(if that were Mallory, you’d blame White. You hate Hall and that’s fine.)

The most superficial (but still reasonable) way to evaluate a coach is their ability to coach inbounds plays and how to attack a zone defense. We are AWFUL against both this year…not just today.

Together with being very soft inside, is why we are down vs a decent but not great Miami. The soft thing is also why we lost to Butler and VT.

Not happy with the first half.

3 Ran around 3 screens, Dallin lost him, Jacari rotated to pick up, Washington leaked in the chaos of it and Dallin didn’t realize he needed to switch over to him. Just well ran by Miami. I think Jai has done a very good job coaching them up today.

From three, they’re 5-8 (63%) when they usually shoot like 33%

But I’m more concerned about their aggressive play running at the rim, we have to put a stop to that

Miami 5-8 from 3. Amd 57% from 2. That shit can’t continue.

Yeah this is one of the ways where Odom feels like the inverse of Tony. For the years after the natty, the overall offense was bad but it felt like we could always draw something up to score out of a timeout or commercial break. Odom’s overall offense is much better but we just never look prepared to call something up

We ran a nice motion against zone after being awful - it totally opened things up for us. But then the last play of half we stopped. I have no idea why.

We’ve scored 39 points on like 30 possessions against a top 35 defense I don’t think the offense has been the issue

Agreed. Odom is better strategically and statistically (overall approach) which helps with recruiting and winning in high volume possession games.

But im not convinced he’s a good tactical or fundamental/developmental coach.

I’m sure I’m wrong as not being a pro coach, but the turgeon style weave we are running against the zone seems like a time waster/really stupid vs trying to penetrate (dribble or pass) the zone and pass that is the traditional way to beat it.

Just hard to win against really good talent when your starting point guard scores 0 points with no assists and one turnover, especially when he is not a dynamic defensive player. Having a role playing glue guy starting point guard against mediocre teams is fine, especially when your other players are on fire (see Texas and NCST), but it’s not going to cut it against talent most of the time. That’s just not the way it works these days in college basketball. I know Chance didn’t score either but at least he had 3 assists and no turnovers and demanded their attention. Hall just isn’t a threat to score at all.

Just my opinion.

I am just gonna say… If Malik Thomas got zero minutes for us from now on the teams’ results would not change at all.
