Here is the opportunity of a lifetime for DaveTheWave, #2 fan (after Fresh) of Eli and also the LRA boardās self-anointed, resident expert shooting coach. Cmon Dave, make it happen. Turn that young fella into a 40% 3-pt shooter and heās a future NBA draft pick! Move to the Hook now, create a monster by next November!
Done - pay me my going rate - bring him down here to NC for 6 weeks this spring.
I got you all!!!
But some of yall donāt get it - he can do things no one else on the team can and you still focus on what he canāt yet?
Why?
Heās literally the only dude on the whole team who every time he gets on the court gets his head and shoulders past his man within the first minute. He gets on the court and creates havoc for the other team because he can actually beat somebody off the dribble, unlike anybody else on our teamā¦..
Anywayā¦
Eli the most electrifying man on the team
I havenāt seen that sort of athleticism from him since his HS tapes.
This season has been too enjoyable to focus too much on how many minutes the 10th man is or isnāt getting BUT I wouldnāt mind seeing what he could do in some consistent/extended minutes with 4 other starter-caliber players on the floor with him, and not just end-of-game situations where weāre running out the clock.
For those that didnāt know or forgot
Eli makes SCās top play!!!
This comes from a NC State perspective, but Brian does a nice job highlighting the tactical aspects of the game; after the intro, the first chunk is basically āwhy UVa poses such a matchup problem for NC Stateās offenseā
The match up problem was super obvious at a quick glance at the advanced metrics sites. Also, the first game.
couldnāt beleive that -6.5 line. ![]()
Hey, does anyone remember the answer Will Wade gave before the season where he was kind of dismissive about the idea of team culture or something along those lines?
I remember us mocking him on here at the time, but I canāt find the specifics.
I came here to see what you had to say about Eli. ![]()
You really think heās not working on his shot already? Iām pretty confident heās working on it all the time. Whatever issues he has with his shot, I donāt think lack of effort or attention is among them.
hard to come into a game after sitting the whole time and immediately start splashing threes and throwing down yams over two people at once. one of those things comes a little more naturally to EG and the other prob requires more reps
My favorite observation: If you made a separate team with Virginiaās bench players, theyād be good enough to finish at least in the middle of the ACC.
John Freeman on the post game radio interview asked if they could just stay for the rest of the season.
Itās funny, when TDRās family was visiting, it seemed like those coincided with his mini slump.
People are also sometimes strangely dismissive of the possibility that Eli may just not be a good three point shooter. He can put in all the reps he wants, some guys just arenāt good shooters. If it was solely a matter of working on it, thereād be hundreds more excellent snipers from deep.
I feel like whether or not guards are good shooters is like 85% cooked by the end of high school. Itās not a skill heās ever really shown, so Iām not expecting him to all of sudden bust it out. But who knows - would be awesome if he could. He clearly has other skills to work with though.
But his AAU 3pt % was decent, maybe even pretty good
HS stats are impossible to find
I obviously worry heās a bad shooter and wonāt ever be a good shooter but heās had so few attempts at any level past junior year summer of HS
Our stats guy has his practice average. I suspect itās not very good, but not sure if thatās 20% or 30% or what
