3-29 across 2 distinct years is pretty telling. And itās not like they are in and outs or just missing. They arenāt even close. Until he fixes that heās just not really playable at this level.
Or some of us are strangely dismissive of why it matters so much for him because heās got so many other things that he brings to the tableā¦
In Acc games this year:
Mallory is 30.9%
Hall is 28.3%
TDR is 26.1%
And yet they are first second and fourth on the team in minutes in conference playā¦. Has anyone said they shouldnāt be playing as much other than Hall of course which Iāve said a ton I know?
Do we honestly believe that Gertrude couldnāt be as effective as Hall with his athleticism and his ability to penetrate and elevate and draw the big guys on drives way better than anybody else on the team right now?
I mean Iām pretty sure Eli can be effective as a player shooting 29% from 3 on low volume. (3 attempts per game on starter minutes like Hall)
Plenty of great shooters have gone 3-29 in stretches of their career.
I do agree that itās not a good sign that heās gone 3-29 over his career but realistically thatās too small of an N to make a definitive conclusion on his shooting ability (especially considering we larger sample size from hs).
Also, like someone said above: coming off the bench out of rhythm and making threes is a hard thing to do (Sam Hauser has talked about having to simulate it as part of his workouts because itās very different from being in rhythm)
Well said. N is too low
If you put Elijah on a random low major and give him 150 shots, whatās the O/U?
Right now, if forced to bet, Iād bet the under at 30%. But we just donāt have that much data.
I also wonder if heās having mechanical issues due to the repeated leg injuries. I know nothing about this, but intuitively it makes some sense.
I mean⦠with the way he gets up⦠why donāt we have him replace Ugo as our backup center next year⦠less expectations to hit 3ās, though he gets to toss them up after just wrecking someone, an also heāll solve our LOB issues.
Pretty sure this solves everything
Are you a serious basketball person with a statement like that? Have you ever sat in a chair for 2 hours and suddenly walk on a gym floor and make your first and only 3 with no warmup? Thatās essentially like 90% of his attempts in his career.
Heās attempted more than 2 threes in a game once in his career⦠one time.
Heās only played more than 13 minutes in a game 5 times ever in college.
Heās 14/30 FG in those games. And 3/10 from 3.
Chance does this far more regularly than Eli does - Chance is actually elite at it. Eli is elite as an athlete. I wish Eli would tighten his handle further because then he could plausibly play the role of Dallin next year (and get more minutes this year).
Iād love to see highlights of Chance doing that? Do you have any of him on his first move getting his shoulder past the opponents shoulders? I mean without a bump into bump into and eventually getting past.
Well Iām sure Odom has seen him shoot many, many times in practice. So the N is significantly higher in the eyes of the only person that matters. And that person is not giving him minutes except when he absolutely has to even when guys are hurt. Iām making a reasonable guess that is because of practice and what weāve seen in games.
Itās interesting that you talk about the importance of gravity most of the time, but then just gloss over this fact in regards to Eli.
I think he is an incredible athlete but I havenāt see much beyond that.
This is silly. Just watch a replay. He does it a lot.
I realize Iām talking about warmups, but having watched Eli shoot before every home conference game this year, I reject the notion that he ācanāt shootā. Now that has to translate to guarded, in game play, but he isnāt a guy with a broken or non-existent shot.
I love Chance and I love Elijah. Would rather not get into that back and forth.
In general, Odom has handled everything really well. Elijah got a nice audition early on and again when Jacari got hurt.
Season isnāt over yet. Thereās a lot of story yet to be written.
Okay enough with the nicey nicey⦠hereās a hot take: The dunk at GT was actually much more athletic than the one last night.
Dave make an argument without attacking someoneās basketball IQ - Challenge level: IMPOSSIBLE
I agree, in the GT one he had that Shinkansen-type of acceleration to blow by everyone in the open court before the dunk
Nah - this one was vs a set defense and he dunked on 2 starters with a blow by crossover.
Other one was nice too though.
Jeromeās ability level to not press send?
Impossible!!!
lol
Love ya man!!ā Forum is great!!!
What up Greta. Play Eli more but 25 wins is tough to argue with
Not even close brother. The cross over to beat the defender then to finish through contact and over a guy. Especially after what heās been through. Thatās a better dunk.
