Thanks for posting so I didn’t have to go find it again myself. I thought I remembered that Taine was fouled on the play, and he clearly was. But to DTW’s point, TV Teddy decided to make up the rules as he went, motioning to the NCST bench that Taine was pushed. But, of course, then he should have called the foul with Taine shooting 1-1.

Still, I’ll take the 3.

LOL I was wondering if my eyes deceived me or if there was a rational explanation. Turns out it was neither of those two.

I think someone mentioned it but man, Cofie’s team defense has improved. He’s learned how to integrate his strengths disrupting passes with the hedge and recovery. His one on one defense in post still needs some work, but it’s passable. Cool to see that development from a first year regardless.

Is it just me or does it feel like his rebounding still needs some work? In those condensed game highlights there’s a few NCST second chance points off rebounds it feels like he should be in position to get. Kind of seems like he’s focused on the defending part but then spaces out a little when the shot goes up. But I wasn’t able to watch the full game so maybe that’s not fair.

Yeah definitely agree with that. Really a whole team issue.

The bigs need to be more focused, give better effort, and be better positioned.

Then team D needs to not get so scrambled that when a shot goes up people aren’t ready to box out.

Feels like the latter has improved some as the team D has stabilized. The former should be more easily fixable, hope to see some progress there soon.

Clipping this game now - am struck by the number of ā€œthis is why you can’t play Robinsonā€ takes there were kind of across all social media after that second foul.

That was an experience mistake.

Meanwhile, he re-aligned Pass’s jaw on his moving screen, made H-H seem tiny when Blake and Cofie were giving fouls trying to deal with his physicality, was around three turnovers by the Wolfpack.

That’s a guy we have a need for (see - defensive rebounding especially - but also having an enforcer who can handle strength) and should be trying to work into the rotation so that he makes fewer experience mistakes when he’s in (not like our other guys don’t still make mental mistakes on the regular).

Can’t wait for cuts from this one!

Like who cares about foul trouble for someone who doesn’t play a lot … right?

how do we reconcile ā€œwe need a modern offenseā€ with ā€œplay robinson moreā€?

If you take requests, would be interested in a Isaac deep dive - especially given some of the recent debate on him here ( summarized as ā€œwould he even be a top player on a good team).

Without diving in, it seems like in our wins he’s had a spurt or two of points that impact the game but struggles to be consistently involved offensively (edit: although he did take 14 shots to lead the team so maybe I’m off base here entirely). Interested in the impact that he’s having in those periods of time where he’s not red hot. Including where our lack of playmaking fails to take advantage of it.

Would also be interested in comp of Sharma’s play to iMac.

Not sure what you mean - plenty of modern offenses still have Centers whose role is just rim protection, screening, and rim running.

One could make the same comment re: Blake.

I’m going to have a small(ish) subsection on McKneely off the bounce in this one (I think, pending it doesn’t run too long) but at some point I’ll tackle something like this in more detail I’m sure.

I can do it in two bullets… he either:

  1. Drives and tries to make some sort of crazy lay–up
  2. Drives kick-stops, spins around and shoots a 6 - 10 foot fade away

I may change my name to Cuts_From_the_Cuts_From_the_Corner

You forgot - drives and makes a wild pass or loses his dribble and turns it over.

Dang… perhaps I was trying to state the two positive ones… when they are positive.

iMac is shooting 44% from three. I think we’d all like to see him be more aggressive, but he’s still shooting almost 7 three-pointers a game, which is three times as many as anyone else on the team.

By comparison, Kyle Guy shot 42% on about 8 shots a game in his third year. Joe Harris shot 42% on about 5 three-pointers a game.

I understand that there are a lot of other things iMac cannot do well offensively, and of course I’d love to see him improve in those areas. But maybe we can start appreciating players for what they do well rather than continuing to harp on their shortcomings? At least once in a while?

I think he is great perimeter player. I actually think he needs to take more shots when he is only half open… like Guy did. I think his rhythm would be better because he would be shooting it more often.

Yeah, it’s mostly the tension between what he’s good at vs. what the team need is.

I totally agree. You’d like to see him make the decision to shoot before he gets the ball, not waiting that second or two after receiving the pass. You saw some of that in the second half of the NC State game. I particularly liked the play where he realized that State had botched a switch and he sprinted to the left side for an open shot.

To be fair: He’s hampered by the lack of a point guard. One reason that Kyle was always so good was that Ty could set him up perfectly.
