🏀 Virginia vs Pitt, Tue 13 Feb, 1900, ACC Network

This game was a combination of Pitt shooting lights out, a poor game for us, more terrible ACC officiating (like legit incompetent levels), and an overall lack of will from the team.

This is quite the wake up call. Defensive effort has not been good at all. They completely diced our game plan with continuous pick-and-pops. Really disappointing we didn’t adjust. Dunn also needs to be more disciplined- his propensity to hawk for blocks has teetered a bit too far in the wrong direction.

On O- agree we should have had more 3 attempts. Have to scheme it. Really just let it go mid 2nd half.

We have almost made more 2’s than they have taken.

I generally agree but there is a world where this actually started with FSU and we just got so mad about the refs that we missed it

Duke beat Maryland down 10 with less than 60 seconds left once… it can happen

Surprised we went away from Minor so quickly tbh. Could’ve used his physicality on some of these defensive possessions.

A few possessions ago was symbolic for this game. Hinson put Groves in a solid bear hug for five seconds at the FT line with the refs staring at him. No call.

Hinson is the new Tyler Hansbrough, with none of the accolades.

By the way, the 23-1 home record over the last 10 years vs. Pitt, Wake, UNC and GT — the loss was Pitt.

And, coincidentally, we’ll be 23-1 in our last 24 home games after tonight.

Pitt isn’t close to the bubble. And they have to play them because they have literally no one else. 2nd years are also youn guys and Mckneely Dunn and Buchanan all getting solid run

Now all the losers that have been tweeting at him for the last week look like real idiots

No I think we’ve tinkered back with the defense - mostly on how we hedge. It looked different this game from the past few. That plus Pitt being tailored made to exploit the hard hedge recovery … well.

Need to get the final margin under 10…

I’m pretty disappointed in Tony and staff. I even gave them credit at the half, believing we had the coaching advantage in the 2nd. We never stopped hedging, we never played them out deep and forced them off the three ball, we were content to not work harder to get three looks, just a terrible game plan that we stuck to wayyyyy too long.

That is the exact opposite of what the pack line is designed to do lol

If we were up 11 with 1:22 remaining I’d be nervous. Instead I’m just drinking.

  1. 13 made 3s

  2. Our weird decision to go back to hard hedging heavily which lead to defensive breakdowns which lead to our offensive players being shook. The same trend we saw with the earlier blowouts. Really need to ditch hedging all together. Id take contested pull up 2s any days vs in rhythm threes off of ball movement. Really disappointed with Tony tongith too much emphasis on trying to take away the 3pt shot of the person with the ball in their hands when they dont shoot a great percentage in those positions.

We played more underclassmen tonight than Pitt did

True, I don’t understand it at all. Hopefully Tony will ditch it again now, but I said the same thing at halftime tonight…

We really really should not be fouling here when the biggest narrative against us is our margin of defeat in losses

You nailed it. Hinson was a beast tonight. Good call. He didn’t care who was guarding him. 11-19 as of now with Dunn on him. A good game -he was fearless.

Yep. We also missed a lot of “clutch” shots that could have turned the tide. Two 3 pointers Groves took. A few from iMac the last few mins.
