I must say I totally fell in love with the guy after this, but not sure Tony and I always think alike. lol
Random oddity I noticed looking at the upcoming ACC schedule. Pitt hasnāt played since last Wed, so 6 days off before they face us tomorrow. Come Sat Wake (for our first Sat home game in 7 weeks) will have and a full week off before our game. Honestly donāt know if that is an advantage or disadvantage this time of yearā¦
Wake plays at Duke tonight
Iād say itās an advantage, even if not always a difference-making one. Little extra rest, less travel, some extra practice time to put in a game plan or work on some fundamentals like FT shooting or press-breaking. Itās not like itās a multi-week layoff with guys not even being around for practices like holidays or exams; thatās when thereās real rust. Mid-season, skipping one mid-week game, but still having the usual practice schedule otherwise, itās fine.
I always though Pastnerās hatred of mid-week byes was silly. Heād schedule GT for random D-II buy games on those mini-byes, which frankly could do more harm than good. Extra opportunities for injury, plus getting soft on playing a non-D-1 level of competition. Just schedule a closed intra-squad scrimmage if you want to keep the twice-a-week game routine.
Lol, oops, the only night I didnt check.
Hope we can bounce back for the Pitt game. Really glad itās not a Monday night turnaround.
Team was spent after Saturday night. Could see it carrying over a bit.
Woman in the bottom right
āWell, Iād neverā!
Ha. The woman directly in front of him looks like āIād never and I aināt now!ā
They want those seats so they can get on tv and look like good little crazies when they reach out and ātouchā the players.
Take the good with the bad lady.
This Wake vs Duke game tonight is huge in ACC Standings. If Duke loses this game I can see a down spiral with 3 really tough road games upcoming and then ending the season with the Heels and Hoos coming to town. I can see them losing this game tonight.
Pastner was in permanent galaxy brain mode (I.e. trying to be being two steps too clever) as a coach. I miss him so much.
UVA -6.5
- UVA covers
- UVA wins but doesnāt cover
- UVA loses
To those voting āUVA lossā I applaud you. canāt be getting overconfident.
But for those that voted ālossā unironically like dave, whatās your reasoning? I donāt know the first thing about Pitt
5-2 on the road in Acc play.
Freshman guards are dawgsā¦really like Loweā¦
Hinson is unguardableā¦ simply a matter of whether he makes or missesā¦
2 7 footers defensively make drives a challenge. An area we are bad at already.
Weāre undefeated at home
Just peeped Carringtonās shooting splits. Youād be absolutely dogging those numbers if he was at UVA. Numbers even worse in acc play it appears.
Loweās numbers look OK but I havenāt watched him. Wonder if thatās who Reece guards but heāll put the clamps on one of those guys
Strength on strength with Dunn getting that matchup, but agree heās really good.
Appreciate you laying that out but not seeing nearly enough to justify picking Pitt to win, but then again you always pick against us so I donāt know if thatās genuine belief or supersition
Definitely a game we could lose and Iāll be very nervous as always but expecting a W
Its wild that theyāre 2-4 at home in ACC play yet 4-2 on the road. Schedule is part of it, their home losses were to Duke, UNC, Clemson and Syracuse, while their road wins are over Louisville, GT, NC State and Duke.
So, on the one hand, their home schedule has been BRUTAL, while their road schedule has been pretty easy. On the other hand, they did beat Duke at Cameron and lost to Cuse at home, so who knows?
Edit - Also worth noting that they had the 348th toughest Non-Con schedule against which they racked up some really gaudy early season numbers. At WV was their second toughest non-con game. Their win over Duke on the road was amazing and beating Wake at home was solid, as was beating NC State on the road. But after that their wins fall off a cliff and its a close one between GT/WV on the road. 12 of their 15 wins were against teams substantially out of the KenPom top 100.
Press sits in the front row in front of the crazies. That womanās a reporter.
From @JBHooās first post in this thread:
@DavetheWave I have more respect for your takes than some people, though it seems like you are always so damn negative about the teamā¦like every single time.
Pitt is very good. I worry about people ā not necessarily here ā looking past them. They are on a roll and are playing as well as pretty much anyone in the ACC.
However, I donāt think they win solely because of our defense. I donāt think their freshmen ādawgā guards have experienced anything like what they will get tonight, particularly whomever draws Reece (Lowe?). I agree with you about Hinson though I wouldnāt be quite extreme enough to call him āungradable.ā If we limit him to about 15 points we will have done an adequate job on him. Their tall dudes are not much of a scoring threat, though you are correct that they may limit Reece somewhat, so we may need someone else to show offensivelyā¦at least enough to compensate for Reece potentially being off his season average.
I think the game ā for us ā largely depends on shutting down their guards. Hinson will score, but without significant help from their guards we win.
I am definitely nervous about this one; not for superstitious reasons, but because they are a better team than their conference record suggests, their road record is very good, and they are rolling.
Thats right Belinda. Embrace the Wave even when he over Torviks things
I think it will be a tight game. Their guards are good but young. I hope our guards can win the battle tonight. Stick Dunn on Hinson and just trust MIior/Blake to hold their own against Diaz-Graham and Federiko.
Iāll Go UVA 64-60
