TV: ACCN
The 9pm tipoff is a motherfucker
Iâm torn between two very different narratives for this Pitt game:
- We have been on the road a lot, and we need to get back to Charlottesville to play our best ball. A regular schedule, some ZZZZâs in their own beds, and the good vibes of JPJ get us back on track and we destroy Pitt in front of a raucous crowd.
- We have some issues that teams are exploiting due to the volume of film that can be evaluated and game-planned for, and we continue to struggle (but win) against bottom-tier ACC teams.
Iâm going with number #1. âHoos by 14 tomorrow night and we shoot the lights out.

We should have some advantages inside on offense: Pitt is #189 in defensive 2P%, #153 in defensive rim%, and #219 in defensive rim FGA rate. They donât have much rim protection as they play Corhen at the 5 about 75% of the time, with SF-types in Dunning and Siulepa as the 4 90% of the time. Though they do manage to be a pretty good defensive rebounding team even being undersized.
Their best offense comes from offensive rebounding, otherwise itâs creating 3s off of penetration by Cummings, Minor, Witherspoon.
I wanna believe ⌠probably comes down to whether at least one of Johann, Hall, Jacari, Tillis starts knocking down some shots. All of them canât continue to be zeros. Also, Ai tells me we commit fouls on roughly 30% of opponentsâ possessions. That sucks and is lousy to watch - stops all flow. Not sure fixable this year with our personnel but can we at least stop the fouls 30-90 feet from the basket?
I hope we keep eking out wins off bad shooting through this stretch of bad teams so that our reversion to the mean happens against Duke and through the postseason.
Thatâs how it works right???
I for one spend a lot of energy cringing and squirming in my chair willing and mojoâing our guys not to foul between 30 and 90 feet from the basket. Itâs exhausting.
I wonder if weâll see some more small ball lineup by Coach Odom. Pitt only plays one guy taller than 6â6â.
What ifâŚthat IS our mean?

I think UVA is sort of a matchup nightmare for Pitt. The frontcourt and pressure will be just too much for the Panthers to hang, imo.
I do like Pitt freshman Ryan Siulupa. Heâs not very polished but he brings some toughness & grit to an otherwise soft roster.
All jokes aside I would like to drop a million points and have a game where our metrics improve again. The issue is Pitt is bad enough weâll need to win by a billion to do that.
Itâs interesting they are 2-7 in the conference, but except for Louisville looked to be competitive in every game. Weâre going to need to bring at least our B game or itâs going to be another nailbiter
Hav, come onâŚwe are favored by 14.5, so it needs to be at least 15!
Love late nights Wâs! Hope we control the game tonight!
Good audition opportunity for Omari Witherspoon and Nojus Indrusaitis
Per Torvik our last two games have been two of our five worst of the season. Would love to see a rebound tonight
Per my eyeballs I concur
Generally over the next 3 games Iâd like to see some improvement:
- GrĂźnlohâs play (bigs in general)
- Ball screen defense / forcing turnovers
- Improving 3P%
- Comfort and ease and confidence shooting from the outside early
Starting to see some of that by Ohio State would be great. Also please win all of these.
We are very terrible at forcing turnovers last 10
GamesâŚ. Would help getting easier looks⌠secondary transition - because live ball fast breaks are very terrible for us.
