Not sure which one of you recommended Matt Browns stuff but I now read his free stuff, and he had a funny newsletter about being raised LDS and now attending an Episcopalian church, and all the questions he now has.
āIs drinking coffee okay? Oh, you have an entire coffee hour? Oh well, I guess soā¦ā
I enjoyed this article vaguely in that vein about ex-Mormons who are still BYU fans and drink at tailgates and stuff. It never really occurred to me that ex-Mormonās would still be BYU fans but it makes perfect sense since itās still their alma mater. Really interesting little subculture there.
Regarding Hall, Hall is a useful piece for this team and I am glad he is in the lockerroom and in the huddle. But I am not seeing how his bigger size is translating yet. His entry passes are fine but nothing special. Sort of lobs it over the defender into the post. Not seeing any passing wizardry and he doesnāt seem to be a stopper on larger physical guards ⦠is he posting smaller guards up and rebounding his position well? Ehhh⦠definitely doesnāt have the quicks to deal with fast guards. 3 ball and FT shooting? Not great for a PG. Is he able to really apply pressure full court and handle it when he is pressured? Floor general? Maybe. To me, Chance seems to be a much better option right now ā already.
I am sure it will happen. But I am also not convinced Hall can prevent it either. It is not like he has hops and gas pump arms. I can see him holding his position in the post much better than Chance. By the way, loved the sequence when Eli smothered that dude who dared to try and shoot it over him in the lane.
There was a time when I could do this, and it was glorious. But now, the offset between the two broadcasts varies constantly. TV can be a full minute ahead of radio, and then after a timeout, radio is a minute ahead of TV.
I do often listen to the radio while watching, all the same. Occasionally confusing but better than listening to Cory.
Looks like official attendance was 12.1k, and one of the broadcast announcers described it as āwell over 10kā at one point. Either way, lowest home opener attendance since before Covid, at a minimum.
I donāt know how JPJ reports it, but itās almost always based on tickets sold.
I dropped my season tickets last year. During the 2023-2024 season I realized attendance was so poor and that I could have saved hundreds (with better seats!) if I just bought secondary. Of course Tony then retired and on court product got even worseā¦
Iām guessing a lot of upper level folks dropped and are in wait & see mode. There were a ton of tix available through the UVa site when I looked yesterday - hadnāt checked secondary but they were probably priced lower than what UVa claims is face value.
I mean, the official numbers always exaggerate but I assume they exaggerate consistently so at least they give a common point of reference. I was also at the Nova exhibition and I thought turnout for it was pretty good, but there were definitely more people at the Rider game.
ESPN did this for a football game last weekend (probably only part of itā¦I was just flipping through). At first I didnāt realize they were doing it until a couple of plays went by with no commentary. It was awesome.
In Europe⦠the main equivalent to ESPN is called Sky Sports. For Premier League games, you can change your feed from your remote to alternate audio. One of the options for the main game of the week is for two random fans of the opposing teams arguing with each other throughout the game called FanZone. I always choose that option.
Honestly⦠I think this would be awesome for college football & basketball.
