Looking ahead to 2025-2026, I can imagine feeling optimistic about a backcourt with Gertrude, Bliss, McKneely, and Rohde … with Gertrude getting minutes at the 1.

I don’t disagree with this, but we’ve had rotation guys on some of our best teams whose offensive games were never refined so why make offensive refinement a gating item for entry into the rotation, now?
Heck, we are a college team. How many college players ever have a refined offensive game?
Controversial statement - a lot of you are experiencing cognitive dissonance over the redshirt being applied and then removed, and looking to ret-con in some logic to it.
Don’t bother - we are all human and humans all make oddball decisions and we all try to reverse justify them and make them seem logical, but most of them aren’t.

Sorry if this is too jerky, just strikes me that sometimes I read stuff like “Tony standards are A-B-C” as the reason why certain rotation decisions are made (or in this case, unmade) when the reality is that we have like 2-3 guys a decade who even meet those standards.
But I’m probably straw-manning too much here…

At first, yes. But his form has much more to work with than Reece’s. Think Elijah has a much higher potential as a shooter than Reece since he actually shoots the ball rather than pushing it like Reece did his first two years

I cant emphasise enough how great it can be for Elijah to get to play WITH Reece!! In actual real games this year
I saw him run the point in HS some (summer) and was not ideal for what he can do. Not to make an absurd comparison but kinda like when the 76ers played AI off ball and his game opened up so much

PS - Kihei was ranked dead last in the ACC amongst all players in offensive efficiency during his freshman season. He was dreadful offensively.
It’s still odd to me that college football allows kids to play in quarter of the games and still redshirt, but you lose eligibility in college bball playing in a single game out of way more. The EG decision came down to a lot of uncertainly how comfortable he would look and it’s an all or nothing choice. Ultimately everyone made the right decision at the end of the day but a system like college football would be way better. College bball seems to be waging a constant battle against kids eligibility.

Maybe someday they’ll have a vote and all this eloquent advocacy I read on LRA will convince enough people, wouldn’t that be nice, but I still have scars from the last time this came up so I’ll be sitting out this round of eloquent and brilliant advocacy for a rule that mostly only UVa fans care about …

If you go by what the coaches have said, the redshirt was largely about them thinking he could use more time to recover from the injury (and/or being extra cautious, perhaps too cautious, about it). And since then, they’ve seen him leaping all over the gym and he’s obviously fine. (If this is what he looks like injured… damn)
