Asymmetric motivations going into this game. Hoos are a lock for #2 seed in ACCs, and strong for #4 NCAAs seed. Maybe a loss drops us to a 5 seed? Tech is playing to make it into the NCAAs. A win on Saturday probably gets them that.
At least we have the revenge motivation!

Random but slightly related since it’s against Tech - what should this year’s senior day look like? We’ll be honoring 5 guys that all were only here for 1 season. They’ve bought into UVA culture and done what they can to bring us back to the upper tier of college basketball so I hope they are celebrated properly but this is also the 1st time ever (including walk-ons) where we’re having a senior day and none of the players being honored started their career at Virginia so I wonder if it will look any different from previous senior days.

Odom might have a slightly different run of show than Tony, but otherwise I’d do it exactly the same
Odom spent most of the season trying to knit these guys in with UVa history, so I’d expect him to treat it like an important deal

I just want to make sure we get in our seats early for the EOC ceremony. Flower bouquets will be presented to the agents, attorneys, accountants and CFPs of each player losing eligibility ( subject to appeal of course).
There won’t be a dry eye in the house as we say goodbye to our End of Contract players.

Eh, I understand the sentiment, but you have to build.
Do you want Tillis, Jacari, Dallin, and Ugo to come back in 10 years and feel like they were here for the start of the Odom era? And helped to build a foundation? Or do you want them to feel like guys who showed up for a few months and did a job?

I’m sure they’re aware of it, but I do wonder how much the idea of tournament seeding and the rivalries affects the euro guys.
The college basketball postseason isn’t some novel concept obviously, but it does occupy a unique space for American basketball fans.

The idea of Senior Day is to say “goodbye and thank you” to the people who are leaving. So the ceremony still makes sense for those who are out of eligibility. Maybe it has less emotional weight if they’ve been here 1 year instead of 4, but it’s still good to do.
If there’s an issue, it’s that we don’t get to say “goodbye & thank you” to the non-seniors who leave. That’s unavoidable but maybe it makes the celebration for the other guys feel arbitrary.

If you’re a hooper and are bought into your team, you will learn to hate whomever you are told is your rival. Guarantee TDR hates those bums. He’s always fiery. NYE game certainly helps in that respect too.
The guys will be ready for Tech. Ive been sure since they stayed out for the good old song after NCSU
