If Gertrude stays and doesnāt enter the transfer portal, guarantee heāll be one of Odomās favorite players and rewarded well. Anybody else could have done the same. He wants guys that want to be there first and foremost.
Itās kind of a bummer to see everyone go, but this board has complained for several years about the programāsā¦I guess lack of ādawgā. Catching the ball and looking to pass first instead of shoot. Too passive. Wilting under adversity. Trouble with pressure FTs, trouble with full court press. I guess whatever lack of dawg means to you. Well, one way to completely change over a programās culture is to completely blow it up. Weāll see if it works!
Very definition of a rebuild. This is why I did not purposely grow emotionally attached to any players this season and digested that the current staff was likely going to obliterated. It is painful especially to watch IMAC leave but it was always going to happen unless like Fresh said Sanchez stayed. My opinion if that would have happened the fan base would likely be griping about how we are not winning with the same players, system and staff! Should have rebuilt!! Everyone has an opinion and mine errors on the side of that the program needs an absolute reset if we have a chance of being competitive in the long term. CTB is the GOAT but unfortunately that error of hoops is in the past!
Big What if was Warley- still think Warley gets us 3-4 more wins last year, maybe more. His man D would have been huge plus- becomes a Brogdon like perimeter shut down defender.
I thought it has been pretty well established that it came down to the fact that Ron had previous HC experience and J Willy did not
I have been in favor of a reset for a while, but as recently as last October I thought we could do a reset with Tony as HC. But I seem to be in the minority (maybe of 1?) that such a thing was possible while also maintaining some continuity.
Is it an easier reset by blowing it up?
Is it better? No way of knowing really.
Being involved in college athletics is so different than your typical undergraduate experience. The bubble that you exist in is first and foremost your team, then like personal friends of your teammates, then other athletes you might know, then everyone else. The time dedicated to your sport is just different and all consuming. So your tight knit group of 15-20 people just went to 2. You got to look at it that way. The turn over is not surprising, I would have loved to keep a core group of 5-6. Apparently not prioritized.
Better than I put it
Totally understand this. The part Iām struggling with is the second part: is where theyāre going gonna be more than 2? Maybe, but I doubt itā¦
The part that this is laying bare is the part of Alston I always come back to: survey data suggested fans donāt care about guys getting paid. But they do care about connection to the school. The more the rules / structures erode connection to the school, the more college hoops is just āless good pro hoops.ā
Maybe Iām wrong. And this is more on my mind today than it will be in a week or twoā¦
So when do we assume neither of the VCU kids is coming along?
End of next week
Totally agree.
And āless good prosā is understating it. No pro league has unlimited, unrestricted player movement. Itās bad for the fans wanting to invest in the team and its playersā¦and thus bad for the sport.
You are, as usual.
the players are less good, but the hoops is still better because of, you know, the trying.
Itās just going to take a while for the olds to adjust to the new reality. My connection to the school remains intact. Iāll root for the team whether iMac is on it or not.
We got someone!!!
Huh?
The Toledo guard.
