Yea makes sense. Can only go so fast when the guards all rebound like ours do, for example. If there is one thing I’d like to see Tony take from any other coach it’s Jay Wright’s ‘you will never be more open than when you first catch the ball’ philosophy and not pass up good shots just because it’s not a perfect look and there are 18 seconds left on the shot clock. If we just employed that it wouldn’t make us fast but it would make us not dead last. I think even getting to 300th in tempo would make it a moot point on the recruiting trail. It’s not like Nova plays fast at all and you don’t really hear negative things about their pace.
It’s just my opinion, but I think his recruitment has been trending away from us for quite a while. However, I do think the info line has tried to keep the suspense. HGN, that’s not meant toward you. You do a great job! It’s just the information that’s being given, although it has tightened noticeably.
With this stuff, you’re always playing catch up. Facts are solid but the intel is dated before it gets out. These Keels and Reid recruitments were just flat out weird though. There were more twists and turns than we’re aware of I’m sure, and probably more ahead.
HGN, I really appreciate what you do.
The dude reads it well Chief
lol Appreciate it but when you choose to write about recruiting ya have to accept you’re going to be wrong a lot. If you’re not then you’re not really telling people anything. Mostly I take pride in getting facts right, especially the kind I have to dig to get. The analysis stuff I mean that’s really for fans to do on their own I think. I try to educate a little on what stuff means but I think most fans have gotten to the point where they don’t need a lot of that anyway.
This year is a different animal, there were no facts exactly, as in concrete happenings beyond Zoom calls. Totally dependent on intel from sources basically. And while I absolutely appreciate the people that help me with that stuff, being dependent on “insiders” to know what’s happening is everything I don’t like about recruiting and the whole reason I started doing this.
Offensive freedom will help Casey I believe. Also will catch recruits eyes. I’m all for this and selective fast breaks. I dont never wont to give up any defense for it though. That’s what buys the groceries. But I’m definitely looking forward to it
Brother is Zeke Nnaji who was just drafted in the first round of the NBA draft from Arizona
He doesn’t even have a 247 page yet and he already has an offer from Maryland. You can’t make this up.
On Maryland offer: ““To be honest, it was kind of surprising because I’ve never talked to [the coaching staff] before.”
@Hooandtrue , if you think that is something check out Brandin Podziemski. He’s a shooting guard ranked # 273 on 247. I’m sure very few have heard of him. Check him out and see who he has offers from.
That name I heard yeah. Kentucky I know is heavy on him as in if you go to their board about recruiting you see they really want him.
Maybe Tony is waiting for 2022 because there is just so much out there that has yet to be seen. My guess is that when it is all said and done there will be at least 2 or 3 kids in the top 25 who aren’t even ranked right or even on recruiting websites. Heck 2021 at least had some semblance of a recruiting season the summer before and players like Peyton Watson and Jalen Warley still skyrocketed out of nowhere to 5 star status.
Rankings in general are weird, and pretty useless outside like the top 5 players I think. How can you know for certain some player is the 83rd best player in the nation? HOW?
Will be interesting to see all the recruits who were highly recommended by assistant coaches to offer without in person evaluations end up being busts, and how many midmajors end up with top 40 talent in their laps.
He has offers from Kansas and Kentucky. I guess players outside the top 30 or so go a lot on coaches evaluations. Villanova just offered 2 2022 guards today. Both of them ranked over 100
The whole rankings thing is kind of a scam if we’re being honest. haha @Hooandtrue seems like someone that’s been following closely for a while and is starting to get it. Nothing against the people doing it. It’s just an impossible job handed to people who are busy with other things. I think of it as a lagging indictor of the overall market. And even with that you have to understand the blind spots.
He blew up after a showcase. Dominated. The recruiting rankings are so circular anyway. As much about who offered than how good.
That’s uh quite the highlight vid lol. I know coaches are big on the special effects.
Hoosandtrue, why do you need a 247 page tu get an offer. Im confused. Are you saying they offered a middle school player?
Its less about the player, more about Maryland literally offering everyone. I have yet to come across a 2022 recruit they havent recruited.
Evan Daniels is the worst. First, I never see him at events. Second, he is bad at evaluating when he do watch games. Third, im not sure he watch the games and get info from others.
