Winter Recruiting Thread

Got it. And I agree that pure shooting guards are a thing of the past (and why pure 2G who don’t really get downhill and create on our radar like Janowski/Bethea shouldn’t be that coveted, $1 million offers from Syracuse be damned).

I think I’d actually be okay with a get old/stay old mantra at the point guard position, otherwise we could end up having an immature PG like Judah Mintz (although with better coaching). But atleast an experienced point guard like Dante Harris and whomever comes along with him would be able to take over immediately.

So it sounds like you are pretty high on Knueppel yourself @HoozGotNext? Do you have any reservations about his shortcomings on defense and the fact that he is *not a wing like Dre or Dunn defensively?

I think Knueppel more than makes up for whatever physical shortcomings he might have. Not that worried about it. Probably ends up one of the top 5 most valuable players to a college in his class.

The best part of getting Knueppel might be giggling every time they say his name.

If pastner is fired, i’d like to see Blue Cain get released and go after him. He is really really good. Going to end the game today with half of IMG’s points (29) vs Sunrise. He dominated the game with and against great competition. I’m not sure of his current ranking but if he is outside the top 50 - 60, he is too low.

He has Duke blood in him though. Dad named “Blue” because it’s Duke’s color I read in one of his interviews lol.

How is Tony supposed to compete with recruits against twitter retweet trains like this

I read somewhere about the Duke connection. He looks like Guy his frosh season including a really sweet shot. Strikes me as a CTB type player each time i see him play. Wishful thinking on my part.

Wishful thinking on this website is how I pay my bills lol.

Also lol at this comment from a Wisconsin fan in the discussion thread of the article

“I think we’ve seen Kon’s parents on this board, so I’ll reiterate my thoughts on Charlottesville. Cute town, strong program…but a royal pain to get to. Connect from MKE to say Charlotte then to Richmond and still drive an hour+ to Charlottesville with your rented car…or pay $1200 to connect from Charlotte to Charlottesville tiny airport. Support your kid to be the best in-state WI hooper to stay home since Dekker, watch him in person every game as he develops into a legend who gets all the shots he can handle while still getting to play along Essegian & Winter & a pass-first Yalden and a defensive ace in Blackwell. It’s too perfect. From an unbiased observer (ok heavily biased, but still check out those flights).”

So much cringe in trying to get a recruit’s parents to read a message board post about how it’s hard to fly to Cville.

Forget the hometown school. Come to the ACC and be a legend.

I mean that literally be an ACC legend like this guy:

If the GT (or UVA) thing does not work out he should talk to Mike Y. down the road. He fits their backcourt IMHO. Rank = 94/88.

Step 1 to this discussion is snapshot next year’s potential roster that we know of today:

The staff’s very first assignment once our season ends is figuring out who of these 12 guys are actually coming back to UVA next year. Have to think that the six rising underclassmen are safe bets, we hope so anyways. Ditto Dante Harris. So that’s seven scholarships that we can (again, in theory) put onto next year’s roster in pen. After that…

Does Reece go pro? Very 50/50 today with his draft stock anywhere from UDFA to end of the 1st Round.

Does Armaan want to play a 5th year? Not everyone does. With his UVA degree potentially in hand, does he pursue a pro career? (Either G-League or international… I can’t imagine any scenario where he takes a 5th year but transfers, guy’s clearly loving playing for Bennett.)

Is Taine going to work out? Don’t think anyone outside of the program really has an idea how close he is to turning a corner and carving out a role next year, especially if Armaan leaves and creates a backcourt vacancy he could challenge for.

Does Shedrick’s decrease in PT discourage him enough to transfer for his final two years of eligibility, or does Bennett see a path to Shedrick bouncing back for a strong 5th year next season?

Does Papi want to spend a 6th year in Charlottesville, especially knowing his role for us is incredibly situational?

Once those guys make up their minds in the couple weeks after the season (with maybe the exception of Reece going through the Draft evaluation process), Bennett will have to prioritize rounding out the '23-24 roster, and then when that’s mostly done will we really have a good picture of the Class of '24 needs.

Yeah and it sucks that’s the approach to the 2024 class because

  1. Depending on who leaves or goes 2024 could end up being a 3+ sized class
  2. The loss of time waiting for clarity in terms of building relationships and locking down kids early. But at the same time if a lot leave there is opportunity there that will be enticing regardless to some players.

Im also hoping this brings into play prospects on the staff’s peripheral who may be more willing to buy into UVA (Ty Davis and Damarien Yates).

Crazy to think there are logical reasons to surmise we could only see this years class return next year. I hope that isnt the case but you know 3 are gone because of expiration of eligibility, and Reece/Armaan/Tain/Shed/Papi all have reasons why the could leave after this year. Lets hope not.
