Grandmama didnt shoot the 3 in HS and was an undersized PF in AAU so never made @Hooandtrue s highlights all stars

Just reading the other posts. Some of you guys remember him. He was a great ballplayer but everyone loved Grandmama

His VHS highlight package was probably using this as the background sound

(for real I saw a random recruit recently with this as their clips song and it was bad ass)

Edit: just realized I was off by a few years with this discography and Grandmama’s HS career. The 90s and early 2000s were just all the same

There are two very distinct 90s. 89-95 and 96 til 2003

I have a hard time remembering the 80s and 90s myself

Jamie Shaw updated on3 rankings. First update in a while (from summer) from any of the ranking sites

Offered and still mutual interest
Kon Knueppel #18
Isaiah Abraham #24
Jarin Stevenson #28
Thomas Sorber #43
Patrick Ngongba #74
Caleb Williams #106
Daniel Freitag #107
Travis Perry #109

Mentioned UVA interest
Marcus Allen #21
Elijah Crawford #85
Jahseem Felton #99
Zion Sensley #129 (forgot to mention him in the original post but it’s not happening anyways. Doesn’t seem like a tony kid on social media. But would fit the “random west coast” addition to our North Carolina/Wisconsin/North East basketball team).

I also realized I didn’t include Chase McCarty. 6’6 wing from Alabama who has mentioned UVA once or twice and I see assistants liking tweets about him but it’s not happening. Already has Alabama and $EC offers.

(Shaw is much higher on Abraham than most. He did see Abraham a few times before the move to PVI where he showed a little more)

My takeaway is that Jamie Shaw is a hard working man, and is an incredible insider in terms of information but man these rankings are wack clickbait just to get clicks from the discourse.

There’s some placements where I go “Ok I can see where he’s coming from”, but if Freitag is the 109th best player in 2024 then it must be an all timer class.

There is a vendor rep I work with in northern Louisiana named Jase McCarty… I am totally e-mailing him to find out if this is his son…

I assumed it was Walter McCarty’s son. Walter has had a rough few years…

Never mind… per Wiki, he has two daughters, no sons.

Yea, it’s a little surprising to me to see Knueppel and Abraham ranked ahead of Stevenson whom i thought to be a borderline 5 star

I wonder if the rankings would be better if it weren’t one guy making a #1-150 ranking, but rather a couple different people rating only the guys they’ve seen X number of times, and then the rankings somehow compositing that. I guess to get a good national ranking system you have to put a level of time into it that would only be worth it if you were selling those rankings and scouting reports directly.

Jesus they did Perry no favors with that thumbnail. Dude looks like Chael Sonnen.

For those like me who had to look it up, MMA fighter.

How do we just get both and win games 100-92 every night?

All this speculation is kinda fun, but… At this time last year, how many here had heard of Blake Buchanan or Elijah Gertrude? Or, if you’d heard of them, had you connected them with UVa? I really wonder if we’ve yet to hear mentioned the gems Coach Bennett and company will reveal come summer. I realize that there have been prospects who committed to Virginia before February of the high school junior year. Very significant commitments at that. But, it seems those are the exceptions. When do the shoe leagues tip off? And, is it then that we’ll discover who the staff is really, really pursuing?

To be fair that’s kinda the point. A lot of the kids on the radar dont have UVA offers yet. Dont think any of these points are lost on us.

It’s also why I liked going through twitter and stuff. Saw staff on Zayden High, TJ Power, and Freddie Dilione’s radar a few months before they went out to see them and offer them because of twitter activity. Elmarko Jackson too. Part of the fun is trying to discover the kids that “pop up” when coaches go out to see kids in April. And also have fun with the kids that get discovered during the summer or staff stealth a kid that not even social media shows (like Cooper Bowser kid).

Edit: @73CAV also at this time we actually had heard about Blake Buchanan. @HoozGotNext shared a tweet mentioning UVA interest and there was a video from proinsight of blurry highlights that I recall not being impressed with at the time LOL. It was just amidst the sea of other mentions of random kids no one cared about
