Um … Jay was 1st defensively in the entire country. Braxton was 5th in the entire country
hahaha. whats this based on? I just know they play against very good players in the ACC so not sure how you can “rate” D
Actual Data - Defensive rating … and if you want to use Defensive Box Plus Minus … Kihei was dead last on the team among scholarship players.
In defensive rating Kihei was 4th - well behind the 3 frontline starters and virtually tied with TW, Morsell and Stattmann … all 4 were between 89.2 and 91.5 … Huff was at 82.2, Key - 84.2 and Diakite - 85.1
I’d like to see Casey get 15-20 minutes a game but you can’t have him and Clark on the court a ton together … unless Casey suddenly gets up to 38% from 3. I like Clark and TW with Jabri, Hauser and Huff. And then I like Morsell with Beekman … In order for spacing and scoring to be optimal, they will likely have to have at least 2 of Hauser, Huff, TW, McCorkle on the floor always.
Those numbers are all great but they cant calculate guard things like disrupting the other team getting into their offense, tiring the ballhandler down etc. Does Kihei get head to head scored on at a higher rate? Probly. Does he stick out in outright steals? I dont know and havent noticed if he does. But he does a lot of unmeasurable things that start the attack of the D. My guess is way harder for guards to have defensive “numbers” based on analytics.
But definitely cool to know. And my premise was/ is that Beekman is ready to compete.
Reece competing won’t surprise me at all … 4 time state champ in Louisiana … and averaged a triple double his junior season and only 2 assists short of it again his senior year. He is better now than Kihei was 10 months ago.
Thats my guess as well and taking nothing away from Kihei of course. But we all know Kihei started in and won the national title game. I was insinuating that Beekman can compete for minutes there
would be interesting to see what this entails. Again, my guess is it is “easier” for big guys to score better than for guards on these analytics
Lineup data is a way better way to evaluate defenders than individual defensive rating or defensive plus/minus. But we can’t even use that for Kihei because he played such a high percentage of minutes that lineups without him aren’t statistically significant.
Your post nails the fundamental issue in evaluating KC’s defensive contributions in relation to his teammates… also rim protecting and defending the perimeter are very different…to say that KC is the worst defender on the team is misleading
Kehei’s 3 point% is gonna be way up this year if he gets some rest each game and I can see that happening now.
Meh. There is soooo much that they didn’t cover with that analysis. For example winning 10/11, 8 in a row, plus the 5 New players we have coming in (or no longer redshirting), plus the improvement of Everyone on our team. We naturally are going to be better because we have so many more options to replace individuals whom may be having a bad game etc.
Don’t forget about Chase. Heard GREAT things about him.
Oh I love Chase moxy and confidence. I’m glad that he is looking better! So I look at it as graduating Mama D and Braxton Key, but adding 5 new players plus the improvement of all of the players on the roster from last year that got very little time, plus maybe a bit more improvement from Three-hei, and Huffzingis, Stattman and Much more from Casey and Woldo
I NEVER HEARD BROTHERS NOT WANTING TU PLAY AGAINST EACH OTHER. What a wack thing tu say. I would pay my coach tu play my brother. Steph and Seth love it. I can see the parents having issues but who doesn’t want tu kick their brother ass in everything.
Exactly! As a younger brother I would love to have the chance to play my brother in a full-on basketball game like that lol
And I would talk shit all game. We might even get in a fight. LOL.
Beekman. Kid will be one the greatest PGs to play at Virginia.
