He warms up with the team before home games. Seems athletic and a little taller and longer than Hunter. Looks like he has good fundamentals. Hunter’s outside shot was much better at the same point in their respective development. The only thing I’ve heard from practice (third hand, and possibly of dubious merit) is consistent with what you see during warm ups, particularly that his outside shot needs work.
Kadin’s a threat as a jump shooter. He’ll pull the trigger from 3 when if it’s a nice clean catch & shoot with lots of room. Make them at a high clip too. He’s pretty dependable from mid-range, likes that 15 footer on the baseline.
The shooting is nice, and maybe it’ll become a bigger part of his game over time. But his offensive value is as a finisher. He’s long with good hands and quick feet. Add that with rim protection and a little positional versatility thanks to his quick feet. That’s the model for the modern big man.
It’s gotten back to me that UVA inquired about two different 2020 recruits last week. I’m not going to put the names out there unless it gets reported because secrecy matters in late recruiting. One is an athletic 6’8 forward, sort of a project, and the other a late blooming 6’5 guard. These aren’t guys with profiles on recruiting websites. so you get the idea. Chances are neither will ever be recruited. But it does paint a strategic picture. They’re definitely preparing to fill one of those 2021 spots a year early if they can find the right player.
I would hope this year would bring some pause to brining in anymore ‘projects’. With the Natty We should be past that in roster construction. Go find a sit one transfer
Well again there’s a big gap between inquiring and recruiting. The specific players don’t mean much at this point. Only the type, which clearly match up with what they’re chasing in 2021.
This is something they’ve always done when the opportunity is there. McKoy last year, Caffaro the year before. Lets them focus on the others. It’s also very telling about which spots they expect to be hard to fill in '21. The guard is pretty obvious but that forward spot is tough too, especially if the center comes first.
Don’t really care if he is a 3 point shooter at this point. It seems that big guys take a while to develop here. So I would just be happy to know that he has met expectations of what they thought they were getting and that he is getting stronger and improving his game this year in practice. If they can get 8-10 minutes a game from him next year and he is ready to challenge for a starting spot in 2021 I think that we should be pretty happy.
I think the areas they’re looking for improvement with Kadin probably aren’t that much in line with fans. Strength for sure and just maturity. I compare him to Mamadi. Kadin is further along because he understands the game better. But he has some of the same issues because he grew late. He’s still new to being a big man.
Gill Williamson may become a 2020 preferred walkon for us. Just keep an eye out. His mom went tu UVA. Thanks
Cool thanks @TUGARD. Here’s an article today where Gill talks about it.
Wow, thanks for that article. I always thought you needed a subscription tu that site. Thanks for sharing.
He has some serious hops and athleticism.
So looks like the news is out. Guessing Gill Williamson was one of the two you were talking about? He definitely sounds like the standard Tony Bennett recruit that he develops over time into a valuable player.
I’d be surprised if that’s who HNG is referring to. As TU said that kid is likely a walk on
No I wasn’t talking about Gill. Had never heard of him until Tu mentioned it.
Do you mind if I post the tu guys you are talking about. Since this is a open and public site. I guess I should make sure if its ok also. Thank You for allowing me tu post HGN. You are doing a tremendous job and your updates are incredible. Thank You again Fam!!
Nah you better not.
it’s out there in some quiet circles but I always hold off that stuff in the late cycle unless it’s reported. And let’s be honest, most people won’t find them that interesting.
Thankyou for replying and I respect your decision. Ok, I promise I will not post as often and let you do your thing. This is your parade and man you are eating. Great Job HGN
You’re welcome to post here anytime @TUGARD. Don’t need some kind of secret intel to have an opinion. I always thought you made good insights on the 247 board. It’s just that some people don’t know how to take you, and let’s be honest again, you enjoy ruffling up tight feathers a little too much some times.. ![]()
I’ll second that Tu. You know basketball so your insights are certainly welcomed!
Big game for Reece Beekman tonight against cross town rival Walker High. It’s a clash of the top two players in the state, at the same position. Walker PG Jalen Cook, an LSU signee, was last year’s Gatorade Player of the Year in Louisiana. I’m hopeful it’ll be streamed. The Walker twitter account claims it’ll be on Facebook but as far as I can tell they haven’t had a broadcast there in 2 years. So we’ll see. 7:45 estimated start, will link if available.
