2021-22 Season Look Ahead

I think he’s practicing radical candor—managing Kadin to be successful by demonstrating that he cares enough about him to be honest about his weaknesses and shortcomings. It’s a delicate balance; lean too hard into the brutal honesty, and you’re just a hypercritical dick the kid’s gonna tune out. But leaven the harsh reality with the right amount of genuine support and empathy, and you’ve got a shot to optimize him and help him be his best self.

I think we can assume the program believes this is the right approach to take with kadin. First, he basically says the same things. Clearly the kid has an almost abnormally good attitude. He is now my favorite player. Second, not only did Curtis say these things, but the athletic department allowed it to be published. Maybe that’s giving the department too much credit, I know.

Agree. My guess on what’s new here is these types of things are being said in external communications, not that it’s new that they’re being said within the program.

But I’m not sure if this is bullish or bearish. Bullish because they think he will respond well and rise to the challenge or bearish because he really needs a kick in the pants so he isn’t a “completely ineffective player” in the second half games and of the season.

Get this kid a peloton if they make them that big

Mike Curtis results

I am not a ‘twitterite’ so apologies if the above is old news. Hope it is okay to post this link here.

That’s an interesting pic, thanks for sharing.

Murray has a college ready physique no doubt, he and Armaan seem about the same size

Kody still tall

Notice most guys are in socks, Jayden is not, as we suspect he is prob 6’6, no matter cause he’s a bull

Here is how I see what Curtis is saying. Stay with me… I think we fans give coaches too much credit in player development. The only way players can truly develop is using the tools provided by the program BUT the individual has to want it.

Being said under TB our program HAS all those tools. Maybe the best in the country this side of Escalade rides to and from JPJ. and Mike is an emormous part of that as he is always ahead of the game on both the physical side and technology now.

Curtis gets X amount of time with the guys per week (NCAA). He has lamented that to me a few times so he has to maximise that and he is the master there however the player needs to show up and then put extra in on his own time.

Also Curtis is a very serious dude and especially when it comes to his job. I dont think he is into fluff nor do I think many weight and performance coaches are. He said the reason he left Memphis and looked to get back to college is because NBA players didnt wanna work on his stuff. I wont mention names but soecifically one very tall european player who was in the league for a long time who has a tall brother who still plays …

This is my take on his comments

What a mess. Anyone know if they have any spring 6’9 players we can poach?

Tucker was the most likely culprit. Stupid, stupid, stupid. At least he’s not facing federal charges like Gaudio. Tangent, but Gary Parrish’s rant on how to do blackmail properly was very funny.

I doubt this leads to any departures. Tucker has been gone (I assume he leaked this after he wasn’t kept / after his Gard putsch failed) since before this was leaked.

Your take is the reasonable one but I want chaos and another rim protector. Two birds one stone.

Reuvers left already and I don’t think they had anyone else who’d qualify. As for chaos, the guy who caused the mutiny is still the big whistle, so that should suit. (Tucker’s offense seems worse, but Gard doesn’t seem to have the locker room).

One of the better offseason podcast segments you will ever hear.

Is the team doing some sort of summer trip this year? Obviously international travel would be difficult but maybe something like the white water rafting trip in 2018?

I didn’t take that piece to be overly negative. I just think Coach Curtis knows Kadin’s minutes/game could be the difference between the NIT and a protected seed next year. Getting Kadin mentally and physically prepared to play major minutes is Coach’s most important task this offseason and as such he’s being brutally honest about that process.

They’ve been holding that role for the last 4 or 5 years. It’s like watching the Hoos with none of the sizzle. Get that Dr. Perky drank
