2021 recruiting reset

Jeremy Sochan just committed to Baylor.

Gross, turning down Bennett or Izzo for Drew and Waco…mmm K.

Ewwwwwww

Well that is a major bummer. Although we hadn’t offered yet, so can’t really blame him for snagging an available opportunity during these crazy times. Still though, I really liked his game. Now I need to find a new dark horse recruit

unfortunate. I rated him better than Kaufman

Baylor is on a roll in recruiting. Landed Langston Love yesterday (a Villanova target for shooting guard). Was Scott Drew’s highest rated recruit ever I believe

Trey Kaufman and DaRon Holmes mentioned. Also recruiting in the pandemic is wild. You are going to get so many mid majors with 2 and 3 star talents that never got the chance to explode over the summer and are actually 4/5 star talent. Evening of the playing field…jk they’ll all transfer after a year and it will return to normal LOL.

Also if Trey Kaufman stays in state and they dont pocket the extra scholly for 2022, I hope they restart the convo with DaRon. He shoots the three, posts up, can defend guards or bigs (according to recent highlights). Thats just my uneducated want. Also the highlight of Gus Yalden are hilarious. Once that kid gets a proper strength and conditioning, watch out

I never did know what to make of UVA with Sochan. Told someone yesterday I thought he’d wait until Spring to sign. lol There was lots of noise about him last Fall but it just never seemed to materialize. I don’t know if the staff was divided on him or didn’t get the response they needed or what. Bennett never went to see him. That spoke the loudest.

those are great. Little bit of Magic Johnson in his game with a soft jumper

TB must feel pretty damn good about his top targets if he’s willing to watch guys like Brizzi and Sochan start to move on. At least I’m hoping it’s because he feels pretty good about his top guys lol

I think the fact that 2021 is also a luxury year plays a factor. No real needs that cannot be addressed by the 2022 class letting us swing the fences with Keels Reid Warley etc. 2022 class is loaded and I would be A-okay with going into that recruiting cycle with as many scholarships available as we can.

That being said the selfish desperate sports fan in me wants news of any kind. Hopefully the supposed Dan Snyder bomb today or tomorrow can quench that thirst. If not, onto more recruiting rumors

Think so too. I keep repeating this but they’ve only offered scholarships to players TB has seen play in-person. UVA might be the only program in the country that’s gone about it that way still. They’re not taking risks is what it amounts to.

I think they feel okay about where things are with current guys, can’t feel that great about it. We’re one of the 5 ACC teams without a commit and the other 4 aren’t exactly top programs (GT, VT, Miami, Pitt). Definitely no panic but it’s uncomfortable for sure.

Keels- Never heard anyone from the UVA side say they think they’re getting him, just that they’re in it and close. I have heard people who know Keels say they think UVA will win out. Bennett is all in, same as from the start.

Kaufman-2nd most important recruit to them I believe, partly because he seems urgent. I wouldn’t say confidence is high but maybe growing. He’s more open than originally thought, and not just to UVA.

Reid: Been a drama fest for a while. Don’t think anybody knows where they stand with him anymore. Some on his side still say they believe UVA is the team to beat. I think either he’s going to be a slam dunk, was always Cville bound, or we won’t even be in the picture. Nothing between.

Warley-In it but would be a mild upset. Said it before, have to change his mindset on some things. He’s determined to take visits, so doubt it ends anytime soon.

Longino-Been total silence on that front. Was told they believe they’d have a good shot if Keels snatches the Nova spot first.

TB has made pros out of many HS players who needed a lot of development. He improved their shooting strokes, handles, efficiencies, and Curtis made chiseled men out of them. When TB gets the opportunity and gets commits from Keels and Reid or other top players and demonstrates that he develops players even at the top HS levels (developing top HS players into beasts on another level). He is golden. I think it is obvious that he can develop any player, but he needs a few wise top players to understand this and commit. I am very excited about Jabri Abdur-Rahim as I see him being the next generation example. And his family understands the long game better than anyone.

I think this will happen. And that TB may seek to be a pro coach down the road as another challenge.

I am not worried about not having a commit while others do. If no one transfers they have 10 guys for 21 and they all should be able to contribute even though we are assuming that for half of them since they have not played yet and hopefully will have skill development and ad strength in the next year.

I get that it happens under TB’s watch and system. But the real is that the kids took everything in and bot in and made themselves pros. It is because of everything. Like Dean Smith used to do TB does now. Wait your turn approach until you are ready which fosters guys doing the work on their own

hey at least we’re not Notre Dame where you have to visit in order to get an offer.

Doesn’t seem to be a rule for '22. He’s tossed a few out. Looks like Brey’s trying to stash scholarships to create big classes every couple years. Was accidental but worked for us. Villanova has the same thing going on. Really believe that’s becoming a strategy.

Being told that Jeremy decisions lately is all emotional and they believe this commitment may not stand. He was disappointed recently by a top school and ever since than. He has made several emotional and quick decisions. I still dont think he will be a Hoo but dont be surprise if this committment doesn’t stand. Especially if Mich St start showing love. Another quick tip without giving specifics.

I think TB would be a HORRIBLE Pro Coach. I see Nothing that show me he could be a PRO coach. I mean you cant play Pack Line in the Pro’s and TB is not diversed at ALL on the defensive end. His offense is tu easy tu defend on the next level and the shot clock would hurt him on that end of the court. Thats just tu real quick things. I won’t mention coaching grown men and players that curse and behave like “GROWN MEN”. I could see TB hiding in the corner listening tu some of the players convo.

TB is PERFECT for the college game. He is a GREAT college coach. It would be a HUGE mistake if he went pro. TB have the perfect career at the perfect school for him. I can’t see him coaching at Kentucky. UVA is perfect. TB will get eating alive as s pro coach. Stay at UVA and become a UVA and than COLLEGE coach legend.

Have to say I agree with Tugard on this one. It’s not exactly comparable to Beilein, but similar in many ways, particularly how they expect players to practice and to behave on and off the court. I think Tony would adapt and become a bit more flexible in the pros, but not enough to succeed in the way that he aspires. And Tony is absolutely perfect for Virginia and I believe he has showed he is aware of that, committing money to the master plan, helping with various causes in the city.

I doubt very much that Tony will coach as long as Coach K, however. Tony has things in his life that are more important than basketball, much more important. I would bet that if he makes a move that surprises us, it will be to retire early.
