2021 recruiting reset

Agreed. Not disagreeing with Doug, as it starts with the player. They must be predisposed to the effort required to grow and develop.

But certain programs are able to drill down into the intricacies that not every staff can teach in ways it can be best applied. Like in any class, there are good teachers, and great teachers. And while great students will come out of any class, there is a noticeable flow of outstanding students coming out of certain classes all the time — from the great teachers.

Tony and his crew are one of those type of teachers many of us remember.

Ok. Where is Trevor going?

I believe any successful program is built around a coach who knows how to get the most out of their players. There’s also an argument that those same coaches get players who are hungry and ready to push themselves to be the best ayer possble. It’s cyclical

Everyone is missing key factors. A coach need tu know HOW tu develop and know WHAT drills tu do. Their facility and equipment is also a key
You can be a hard worker but not experience the same developmental drills at each school. Mike Curtis may know things that Maryland coach doesn’t. So knowing what tu do is very important and how tu implement the drills. We may have shooting devices that other schools dont. Certain technology that help with ball handling. Knowing different exercises. Things of that nature. Each coach have their own tactics. So a player can bust his butt all he want but he may get better at one school than another because of the coaching, coaches knowledge in training and the equipment in the facility. Also who you train with is important. Iron sharpen Iron. Lebron son have more advantages than my son. My son could develop more at Lebron house than at mine. Accessibility and options is a factor. He has a nutritionist. My son dont. So much goes intu development. This is for Doug. TB will get more out of his players than Pete Gillien will. So much factors intu development. So Curtis need his props. His coaching and knowledge is why he is one of the best. Put me in Curtis spot with that equipment and I wouldnt know anything. So I would do my basic developmental skills while Curtia will have them on a computer monitoring their shooting angles and follow thru.

I also think that besides MC being good at what he does, there is an expectation in the program (5 pillars, etc) to do what you are supposed to do, which is work hard to get better. So its a self selection of many kids before they arrive, I suspect. Granted, I have no inside knowledge, but those seem to be the kids that come to UVA. They want to get better and expect to work to do so.

I think you are referring to the reverse scenario.

Highlights of Trey Kaufman from Saturday.

Solid three point shooter. Still has a “rawness” to him but isn’t a complete project. Is slightly more polished in other areas. “Potential” is the word I think of with Kaufman. Has the tools to be special

Reminds me of Gill physically, except a better 3-point shot but these clips don’t show him taking hard contact that AG thrived on. Still, he looks a lot more like a 4 than a 3 to me, but hey, what do I know?

I think Kaufman is the real deal but wouldn’t pay any attention to that clip aside from shooting. Competition looks an awful lot like my old rec league team lol

I was trying to read the score board. I think it was a lot to 4 but thats me. Looks like he has really fast feet and nice soft jumper. Like the AG compare around the basket.

I got the score as 62-30 at the 3:31 mark on the video. So yea, He was yammin on some guys that likely will not be suiting up in the ACC anytime soon. He did show some touch which is impressive at that age.

Very much agree with both the Gill Comparison and the lack of competition lol. He is definitely not someone I see being on the perimeter too much but he can be a really good 4 with the ability to shoot the three after a year or two with Mike Curtis

I think Jeremy Sochan is more of the 3 who can slide down to the 4. He is a a Justin Anderson/Braxton Key type small forward but a little taller at 6-7/6-8

Comp at most of these AAU tourneys right now is weak. Once it becomes regional much less local like some of them are, lots of games against kids just hoping to play college ball at any level.

The highlights I saw from Kaufman v Caleb Furst he reminded me a lot of AG. He mainly scored from the inside and was ultra physical (lowering his shoulder to create space, etc.).

was just about to say lol. My rec team of non-basketball players looked better than that team in black.

Who’s the #32 on Kaufman’s team?!? He looked really good, creating his own shots and such.

Yeah he also impressed me, good shot creation at his size (6’6).

Name’s Kooper Jacobi, 247 has him as a 2021 3* with mid-major offers (Akron, IUPUI, Indiana St, Miami OH). Could definitely be a late riser though

@HoozGotNext I saw something on FB about a show with JWilly, can you throw that somewhere up here. I missed it! @Merch

I didn’t realize when I posted that I think you have to be in the UVA Hoops Facebook group to access it live. I assume they’ll have the replay up on youtube soon though.
