2022-23 Lineup Conjecture fun

Here are the numbers for turnover % which calculates what % of plays where a player actually tried to do something resulted in a turnover. This doesn’t count awful shot selections that are the same result.

Rk Player TOV%
1 Chase Coleman 50
2 Kihei Clark 18.7
3 Francisco Caffaro 18.7
4 Carson McCorkle 17.2
5 Malachi Poindexter 15.8
6 Reece Beekman 14.8
7 Kody Stattmann 14.5
8 Kadin Shedrick 14
9 Taine Murray 10.3
10 Armaan Franklin 10.1
11 Jayden Gardner 9.9
12 Igor Milicic Jr. 8.6
13 Chris McGahren 0
14 Jayden Nixon 0

Unless something happens in the portal, people need to prepare themselves for Poindexter to have a significant role…possibly even a starter. I really don’t like the idea, but this year gave a preview of what very well could happen next year.

I guarantee you that will not happen. I would bet money on it.

Chase, we salute you!

I see what you’re getting at Dave…Chris McGahren and Jayden Nixon needed a lot more playing time this year.

Exactly!!! No mistakes all year.

A lot of statistics need better modeling techniques to account for things like, “Who is asked to make a play with the shot clock winding down?”

It shouldn’t be surprising when a power forward who is the 4th or 5th option on offense has a low turnover rate and a high shooting percentage.

Just killing it with these posts my dude. I king kids in automatically. So you’re thinking they’re gonna improve. Guess what though, I believe Malachi will improve too.

I’ll play Non-conf minutes, then 1st 10 ACC games, then rest of season:

Reece 28 32 36
Jayden 24 30 28
Armaan 22 24 20
Shed 20 22 24
Taine 18 14 16
Isaac M 18 20 22
Isaac T 14 20 22
Papi 14 12 10
Igor 12 8 8
Malachi 12 8 6
Leon 6 6 6
Carson 6 4 2
Dunn 6 0 0
200 200 200

I mean we are clearly starting Reece, Julian Phillips, Patrick Baldwin Jr, Jayden, Kadin

A little more realistic, hopefully Taine can provide that 10-15 minutes off the bench after getting consistent with what Tony wants to see from him this off season.

I don’t think Malachi is getting minutes next season unless something drastically falls apart. If he was a part of the plan he would have been getting minutes since game 1 and there also wouldn’t have been that few game acc stretch stretch where we Malachi didn’t play at all after playing some.

Maybe but Clark has been a 36 minute a game blindspot for Tony for 3 years. Shoot he played as many minutes as Huff and Key combined in 2019.
So Poindexter did t have much shot at getting guard minutes

Unless London J re-classes, who besides Malachi plays point to back up Reece?

The Isaacs have both played PG quite a bit in HS the last 2 years.
And Taine actually played a lot of PG 2 years ago in a heavy ball screen offense

McKneely. Reece is going to play 30-35 minutes a game. McKneely can play those 5 minutes back up, especially if his Mooney from Texas Tech/Darius Thompson with a jumper comparison is accurate . Especially since he plays pg both in hs and aau some, and it will be pg by committee with the other guards.

McKneely playing PG vs Reed Sheppard and Bronnie James (their pg Sencire Harris who is also a combo guard was out with injury. it was pg by committee even before)

Traudt doesn’t play PG, he just occasionally brings the ball up the court. And McKneely doesn’t play PG either for his high school team, although he’s played some in AAU.

Yes, an all ACC blindspot.

I tried to come up with minutes for everyone, but decided to group people together instead because there wasn’t 400 minutes in a game for me to hand out.

Reece - 34, preferably with a break in each half

Jayden - 30, pleasantly surprised with his individual defensive improvements this season, continued work in the system should make him a better team defender as well

Kadin, Papi - 36, I know Kadin is going to improve, but he is not going to outplay Papi 100% of the time, and we will need Papi to bring some juice from time to time

McKneely, Franklin, Taine - 72, each gets consistent minutes, who gets the most depends on how things are going and what is needed, hoping to see this rotation treated the same way the Kadin/Papi rotation was treated this year

Traudt, Igor, Bond - 28, I’m hoping they all play in every game but that means a 10 man rotation and I doubt that will happen, I want Traudt to take most of the minutes, but am tempering expectations so I’m pleasantly surprised if/when he plays more, I’m not sure what role Igor fits into offensively, I’m fairly certain I know his skill set, but is he a potential Hauser playing the 4 or a big wing? Bond I think will be a stud with some offensive development but will see time strictly based on his ability to guard and be athletic

Carson - 0, I like Carson and I hope he succeeds and proves me wrong, I think I put too high of expectations on him to be like Kyle, when realistically, Kyle was so good it was unfair to Carson, I like how he uses the haters to motivate him, now he just needs that swagger on the court!

Dunn - RS, I’m on board with the redshirt for the mystery that is Ryan Dunn, mostly because I think the playing time he will get next year will be limited and he can potentially trade that year for 30+ minutes a game as a RS senior

Pithy … 3rd team all ACC in 2020 leading the Hoos to their worst offense in UVA history - or at least 1954 when stats became available…one time a 3rd teamer in a year when the other PG’s in the ACC he was voted ahead of were Brandon Childress, Wabissa Bede, Prentiss Hubb, Xavier Johnson, Trey McGowens, Joseph Girard, Derryck Thornton.

What a dream scenario. This would mean that the Issac’s are massive hits in recruiting and contribute big time, right off the bat.
It’s depressing thinking that Armaan could be getting 30+ a game next year, unless he makes an almost unprecedented jump in ability to shoot.

You’re wasting your time here lol is there a more polarizing UVA player than Kehei?
