When it comes to Virginia basketball, htraylor is the very definition of selfish.
Ha, I was mostly being (a) snarky and (b) backward-looking. I am still unfurling my 21-22 recriminations list (despite the topic at hand).
Iām not really sure what will happen next year. Iām not a big fan of going with the same starting 6, because I didnāt think they were particularly good, and the W/L record and box scores agreed with me.
It could be that Taine and Kody were competing for the Oceania minutes, and now that Kody is gone, Taine gets the āGang of Youths Chair for Oceania Hoops Appreciationā minutes.
Love you for it my man
Edit: your take is exactly right in my opinion. I just wanted to stir it some. I got so much better being in Cville during summers and working out and playing with guys like Andrew Kennedy, Dougie Newburg, Phil Stinney. On and on. Working on drills with Iavoroni. Dudes that genuinely wanted to help you get better. Ask @chavlicek15
Snark is great - itās my 3rd language after condescension. ![]()
On a (slightly) serious point, I agree that Taine does seem to have a loose handle judging mostly from the AUS FIBA game** and from the B/W pirate stream.
** Tangent - speaking of Oceania hoops appreciation, Dyson Danielsā dad is Ricky Daniels, who played at NC State in 93-94 and 94-95. Just before my time.
Thanks for the chuckles and lolās ⦠Clark wasnāt part of any best 3 man combo in 2019 among the 8 rotation players. The best 5 that year was any combination of the big 3 with 2 of Key, Diakite and Huff.
TBās best ever lineup was Ty and Kyle at guard, Dre and Braxton as combo forwards, and Mamadi at center. Problem is we donāt have the combo forwards to replicate that look next year. Closest thing will be if Traudt and Bond are ready right away. Then we could potentially go Reece, Armaan or Isaac M, Leon, Isaac T, Kadin.
Doubt we will see either iteration of that lineup play a competitive minute though.
forgot about the Braxton Mamadi duo.
My Bond comparison has always been Matisse Thybulle but interms of UVA comparison i think Braxton is pretty close to what Bond can be for us.
Kadin as that Mamadi big. Dunn down the line as that hunter offensive wing.
What we really need to do is have Mike Scott and Isaac Traudt work out with each other one on one the entire summer. Lock em in a dragonball hyperbolic time chamber and let Mike Scott teach Traudt all of his moves. Wonder if he will pick up any of his personality as well, cause I want that āride or dieā mentality scott has.
Leon Bond can be as good as Leon Bond wants to be, I think. way way high ceiling
I still honestly canāt believe that we didnāt see one single minute of Reece Armaan Taine Jayden Kadin, what I predicted to be the eventual starting lineup for the season last summer. Not one minute lol.
Lets taine play the 3 where he doesnāt have to dribble and can space the floor. Gives us more size for rebounding, letās Armaan and Reece lockdown other teamās 1-2 and bully them with length and size. Gravity of Taine = more space for Jayden.
I am just going to reaffirm myself as the resident bond doubter and Dunn believer. I hope to be proven 1/2 wrong.
Dunn has the pedigree with his brother being a major league baseball player. But I am secretly the other way and hope I am 1/2 wrong as well
Love that you mentioned Newburg. He was on the team while I was in school. Barely made it off the bench. But when we played pickup with him, he absolutely dominated.
Yessir. He was an unreal pick up player. He took care of me and @chavlicek15 and Big Red back in our first year. Great dude. Would have us over for burgers and shit after playing pick up games
As far as impact next season, put me down as high on Bond and McKneely and low on Traudt and Dunn (but still high on their long term potential)
VCUās Phil Stinnie?
Yes. Great dude. Could really ball. Huge career overseas Helped all of us along
Sums it up for me as well
Wow! Thatās a name I havenāt heard in a long time. What I remember is him hitting ridiculous shots in warm ups. The story back in the day was that Terry Holland got on him to practice shots that he would actually take in a game, so he sat on the bench and launched one. Iām sure it was apocryphal, but I choose to believe it.
Phil played at Charlottesville High on great teams with Tommy Calloway, (ODU/UVA) Vincent Dooms, and the Brock brothers. I had courtside seats a couple times a year when those guys played my GW-Danville teammates.
