2022-23 Lineup Conjecture fun

They’ve been in the background of a few posts, but this is more official confirmation that Armaan and Kihei are working with Altizer this summer. I thought (?) Reece was going to as well but not sure

Disagree on the elevate and elbow… player dependent

I think it was criticisms of his old approach, as in these are things I used to teach that are no longer true.

Justin Taylor putting a move on Kihei here uh-oh. Program in trouble.

Notice how they didn’t show the ball going in… lol he probably missed it

probably. Still a real nice move though. I want Damin to release all of Kihei’s crossovers on Justin in return. Its only fair lol.

ha. so we agree

Just imagine if Kihei shot 37.5% from 3 and Armaan 39-41% from 3 this year. The team could be legit

Yeah if Armaan had been a 40% shooter I think we would’ve been really good this past year let alone with another year of development for everyone

Think that’s imagining something that’s out of reach. Armaan was one of the least efficient three point shooters in all of college basketball last year. We need him to improve enough for defense to at least respect him some.

Wouldn’t really matter since he can’t guard anyone …not for lack of trying

I’d be a far worse defender than Kihei in any game, but I am sure if CTB were forced to play me, he would prefer I shoot 37.5% rather than my usual pickup game 10-12%.

True - but at high ACC level - one should be a Kyle Guy level shooter if one is a worse defender than Kyle Guy.

I remember Brady Manek’s family was interviewed earlier this year, and I believe all of them played basketball? They were saying that he learned how to shoot by “reaching into the cookie jar”, or something like that. It seemed to work for him.

Yea man they were/ are all gun slingers. Same way I was taught at David Lipscomb Camp growing up. Cookie jar on fridge. Bend some come up on your toes and hand up and into cookie jar. In laymans terms follow through. ha.

Larry Bird always said no matter where anything else is make sure the shooting hand is following through.

I’m excited to watch Dayton. They started rough because it was all new guys, but they had some really fun moments.

They just barely edge out Kenyon and Oberlin

Anyone listen to the BVP pod? Any good nuggets?

Somewhat obvious, yet simultaneously under-covered phenomenon: the biggest jumps, IMO, are the frosh–>soph jumps of talented players. We saw it with Reece this past year (which makes me think improvement from here is incremental, which means I’m not terribly optimistic on the jumper). We saw it with our 2014 team (Malc, AG, Tobey, Justin). We saw it with Ty, Kyle, and (sort of) Dre in 18-19.

Dayton definitely fits in that bucket. So does FSU (though losing Butler complicates it).

The under-covered part of it is that the national hoops media (AP voters, Parrish, Goodman, Dauster --though Bobby D is better than most at avoiding what I’m about to say) consistently forgets about this, though. They pay attention to recruiting rankings for the next year, which is a bit silly, unless you’re talking top 15 type guys, but consistently forget recruiting rankings of the rising sophs.

(And if you think the undercurrent here is that this is really yet another post hoping we don’t do a run-it-back+BVP strategy then you’ve clearly been reading my posts)
