2022-23 Lineup Conjecture fun

Mains reasons for coming were development / improving stock at professional level. He’s game for whatever role helps the team win. Thinks people will be surprised with his individual defense. Working a lot with Mike Curtis on mobility.

One surprising thing is that they haven’t been working yet on packline D as a team.

Thanks! I think I’ve heard that about the packline (timing of practice). Might be hard to implement when they’re not doing full team practices (though I forget the summer practice rules)

I think the Italy trip will pay huge dividends on packline learning curve. Much better to get some live game failures figured out there than in Harrisonburg.

Plus, I think another benefit of the international trip is a team can get more summer practice time that way (but I’m not sure if that’s correct).

Oh, and speaking of Italy, I thought I might be able to live stream the Rapallo game, but when I casually broached the idea of a nice drive from Milan to catch the game, I got a brush back pitch from my wife. Not exactly chin music, but I hit the dirt nonetheless

Huh, did you mention it might be against a very good Serbian team? I’m sure that would clinch it (“it” being you winding up on the dirt).

Guarantee she wouldn’t miss with the next pitch. The problem would be getting back up off the dirt

CBB podcasters say that coaches say (convoluted I know) that extra practice is the primary benefit when it comes to basketball. The trips help more from a bonding perspective than they help on court. The extra practice leading up the the trip is the beneficial on court piece.

That may be true as a general rule, but with the packline, I have to believe that live game experience is extremely valuable in teaching the positioning, communication, and continuous effort necessary to succeed as a team against players and schemes that you haven’t seen.

How many new starters in Feb 1 2023 lineup (Feb 1 as a proxy for “steady state” starters) from end of year 2022? Assume no unforeseen roster issues (e.g., injuries, surprise additions).

End of year 2022 = Papi, Jayden, Armaan, Reece, Kihei

Yeah I could see Taine or Mckneely overtaking Armaan if they show they’re capable and he doesn’t improve. Kadin better be starting or else I’m gonna have to reevaluate our ceiling

Agreed. Kadin is a lock. The question is at the 2/3. @paperboy is right that Armaan’s shooting could find him on the bench, but count me on team optimist that he will have a good year.

I think (hope, pray) that the big change by February will be that Kihei will slide to primarily the backup pg role off the bench. Reading TB’s comments about shooting in the Kaiser interview makes it hard for me to believe that he’s going to want to have his best shooters sitting on the bench for the first four minutes of every game again—especially when McKneely should be able to grasp the defense faster than the usual 1st year.

Okay some crazy tea leaves this morning. RD Instagram story in the gym lifting weights - seems like the foot is all good.

I am pencilling him in for 24 MPG

From what I saw he was just doing face pulls, which would be fairly easy to do with a bum foot, no?
