(I was making a bad joke – though I suppose he probably might’ve been eligible for an injury RS…)
lol - sorry in year beginning kickoff meetings today … not paying full attention to the reading between the lines … but good chance he doesn’t come back next year either way
Yeah, he’s gone. He’s still probably top 10 or so.
My earnest point is that I think any conversation about burning shirts should be about the value of the 5th year (highly speculative) over the immediate benefit to the team (and player, frankly) of playing right away. I use the comical example of Nick Smith because it’s so extreme.
Team zero continuity has been…fine, considering the Smith injury? I’m impressed that Muss can put together a good defense with no continuity. They’ve kinda been exactly the same statistically for three years, both in terms of overall quality, and in terms of the things they are good at and less good at.
Completely agree … there are very few examples when having a guy around for a 5th year is better for the team than playing right away … in hindsight I could give a couple of Hoo examples.
- I think it would have been good for Tobey - but he was younger as a freshmen than his whole class - and basically would have just been a reclass into his natural age group.
- Brogdon doesn’t really count since he was hurt.
- Might have been good for Hall too but his last year ended poorly even though he was really good his 5th year outside of his last game.
- Also debatable about Huff … if he had played double digit minutes right away - would he have needed a 5th year? Clearly his 5th year he was very good.
- Conversely:
- If Stattmann had redshirted we would have been stuck with him a 5th year.
- Currently we are stuck with Caffaro this 5th year of his instead of having the opportunity to go get a bouncy grad transfer big.
Yeah, he’s been good at cranking it up when he needs to.
I couldn’t like this post enough!!!
Diakite also wildly benefitted from an extra year. I know it wasn’t our choice, though
Kentucky Miss State in a big bubble battle right now.
Think Tenn beating Bama hurts us. Not Catching Bama on seed line but gives Tenn another solid victory
Yeah, they’d have to collapse disastrously for us to be ranked ahead of them. On the bright side, thanks, Texas!
Northwestern knocked off another Top 25 team…
Thank you to the Big10 refs for the no call on Buie on the last shot for taking the eyes off of UVA/Duke call. Def looks like a charge to me.
Is this what you are talking about?
Sorry, No. I was referring to Buie‘s last drive (winning shot) against Indiana.
Maryland up 18 on Purdue late in the second half
There is so little difference in like the top 16 teams
I can see Purdue getting bounced early. Especially if they get matched up with a team like NCSU in the 2nd round. They’re just too young at the guard position
St Mary’s just beat KenPom #203 UCSD on the road by 3.
So, it happens. They probably got knocked pretty hard.
