I hope you are right. As Buchanan’s readiness to contribute immediately is unknown, having Caffaro return would be more than helpful, but I don’t know if he wants to spend a sixth year in Charlottesville.
Kihei, Gardner, BVP, almost definitely one of Armaan/Caffaro if not both. Probably at least one transfer out of Murray/bond/Dunn and that doesn’t even note the potential of any to go pro
@73CAV I am more sure than you are that if 5 leave then a heavy run at the portal to back fill a Jayden type will be in the offing. Need a reasonable chance to reach the 65ppg one of CTB’s team needs to win most of their games.
Yea we are going to hit the portal in the spring. Probably will almost every season moving forward
I find it very unlikely that anyone in the transfer portal will be more prepared to play in Coach Bennett’s schemes (read: defense) than the returning players. I doubt that there will be any starter’s minutes available to them. I imagine that UVa’s 2024 starters are already on the roster. So, I suspect Virginia will be looking for playable depth. Now, if someone like Reed Sheppard or T J Power decide they made a mistake and want to transfer, that’s different, but I won’t be holding my breath. And, you have to wonder about transfers not looking for a starting position. Finally, looking for two or three transfers from the portal has its own issues, IMO.
It does but they are better issues than not having enough players. Same as adding some unranked late high school players will have issues but they’ll still be better problems than going into the season with 9 guys.
Appreciate the back and forth. So I am going to show my work.
Fish - career 0 ppg
Mick - career 0 ppg
Bond - career 0 ppg
Dunn - career 0 ppg
Fresh’ s nephew - career 8 ppg
Murray - career 2 ppg
Shedrick - career 6 ppg
Buchanan - HS
Gertrude - HS
IMHO you ain’t defensing your self to wins with these scorers 5 pillars and all. I know what I don’t know. Maybe Fish and Mc take the ACC by storm. We will have to see.
I can’t see a scenario where Dunn or Bond transfers after one year. They understand the deal coming in and know all the guys that are leaving. Murray will get his opportunity this year in some form. If he leaves it means he is not good enough like Carson.
Of the top 6 scorers on the 2017-2018 team, none had averaged more than 5 points per game going into the preceding season (2016-2017):
What we know from watching Coach Bennett’s teams for the last decade plus is that he values defense a bit more than offense. We also know that it takes longer for front court players to earn his trust with the defense than back court players. In only four instances has a front court transfer with no playing experience, at Virginia, earned an immediate starting role (Nichols, Hauser, Murphy, & Gardner). Both Nichols and Hauser benefited from a year as a redshirt. Regardless, in the case of Hauser, Murphy, & Gardner, there were no other viable options on the roster. Also, initially, their defense really wasn’t up to Coach Bennett’s standards.
So, regardless of any stats we have now, in a year, everyone of the returning players will have some experience with Coach Bennett’s defense. More than any transfer or true frosh will have. I believe it is safe to assume that the projected starters in November, 2023 will be Beekman, Shedrick, Traudt, and two of Murray, McKneely, Dunn, or Bond. I am more than skeptical that any transfer from next spring would be capable of displacing any of them. Likewise, I doubt any true frosh jumps the line. More importantly, I imagine that those in the portal know all this. If someone is capable of starting for Virginia, and is looking for a starting role, I suspect that they will look to a program where starting is a certainty, not a slight possibility. I believe any portal acquisitions will be to provide playable depth, and I believe that can be hit or miss. That said, it’s worth remembering that Braxton Key was playable depth. Sort of.
@Hooandtrue didn’t see you mention this one ![]()

Scroll to post 12. Didn’t see that tweet from the player but did see the “UVA in for..” today but figured no one cares about 2025 outside the kids that will end up being our 2025 class Austin Williford and Jacob Wilkins ![]()
Williford was at Bullis to see Caden Diggs yesterday. I don’t guess they’re doing the reporting thing.
tell him to return my text please

What the hell is Peanut City? The confusion made me forget I was watching an Isaiah Abraham transition bucket.

Someone with UVA connections let Kymora Johnson know her next recruiting assignment is not another women’s bball recruit to chat up but ElMarko Jackson.
Now Peanut City is the type of AAU program I can get behind!
Apparently from Suffolk.
