2023 Basketball Coaching Carousel

That is amazingly perfect. What a way to start the career…

(also, I hate self-imposed bans. Schools use those to exploit innocent kids)

Agreed the self-imposed thing is such a BS way to cheat the system.

Also we done Will Wade, haven’t even started and always got a week off.

If true, that’s a really bad thing to do to a first time head coach. You have to give the guy some room to figure it out.

Normally I’d agree. But if you watch a guy spend 5 straight months dropping a bowling ball on his foot, maybe it’s time to get him totally new equipment.

I think there’s a natural tendency to want to do something, but I just think you either let the guy figure it out on his own or you realize you hired the wrong guy. Changing the whole staff EXCEPT the one guy mainly responsible feels like doing something to keep the donors happy (which I guess you have to do since they’re responsible for payroll).

Speaking of Payne’s staff, I’d love to know what Milt Wagner has been up to since DJ announced for Kentucky…

Well, right. Firing Payne is the correct move (yeah, normally you give someone time to figure things out, but this wasn’t a “normal” bad first season), but for a variety of obvious reasons they can’t. So, you do this instead.

You don’t think he’ll figure it out and you can’t fire him. So by doing this, in the 1/100 chance he figures it out you can take credit. And if he doesn’t, you can say “We did everything we could and gave him more of a chance than firing him after the first season” when you fire him. And rearranging the deck chairs makes it look like you’re doing something.

Yeah, I guess it’s an optics things. I’ve just seen it backfire SO MANY TIMES in high profile situations recently. It backfired so badly on Louisville** they had a whole blackmail investigation!

** LOL - I was typing this and I literally didn’t remember it was the same exact jokers who created that terrible situation that are now creating this terrible situation.

Started coaching under the legend Don Meyer at Northern State. Great story

Coach Meyer and Coach Bennet (dad) were homies

Sundance is a star, especially in the northern plains/midwest area. I’m not an expert by any means, but I expect him to be very successful and to continue moving up the coaching ranks quickly.

He just needs an assistant coach named Cassidy.
