Is Cal a desirable job at all?
Not unless the Pac-12 realignment benefits them. Otherwise theyâre at best a mid-tier Mountain West club five years from now.
Aidan Mahaney to UVA?
Thereâs certainly precedent for this. Among other things, when Danforth left Syracuse, Coach Boeheim was promoted from within without head coaching experience, and that worked out well for them. For that matter, when UNC let Frank McGuire go, they promoted Dean Smith from his staff. Outside of the ACC, Joe B. Hall proved to be a decent successor to Adolf Rupp at Kentucky. These things donât always work, but sometimes they do. No telling how these hires will go.
That was my thought. Even with Pac 12 realignment, at that point the conference is going to be so weak it may as well be a mid-major.
Jason Kidd to Cal?
Has JKidd ever been back to Cal since he went pro?
I dont think soâŚ
St. Maryâs is a better job though, right? Randy Bennett doesnât exactly strike me as someone who is that desperate for a power conference job. Heâs been great at SMC for 15 years at this point and no one has tempted him away. Cal even tried to hire him in 2008!
Edit: they tried in 2017 also, haha.
Hire this guy
Back when Oklahoma & Texas went SEC, and UCLA & USC went Big 10, I was hoping the ACC would cherry pick the best of what was left from the Big 12 & Pac 12 and form a super conference of 24. Split into 4 divisions of 6 teams each based on geography.
I still think that may be the best way out for the ACC. Merge with the Pac12/10 create divisions and run it out. Itâs the only way they are going to be able to leverage themselves into a new media deal.
Bro we canât be in a conference with California teams. The taxes alone will ruin us.
What I had in mind was 4 divisions.
BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, Louisville & West Va in the North. Some semblance of old Big East rivalries.
UVa, VTech and the 4 NC schools in the East,
Clemson, GT, FSU, Miami, Baylor & Kansas in the South.
Six Pac 12 teams in the WestâŚpreferably Cal, Stanford, Arizona, Az State, Oregon & Washington.
Best response youâve had in a bit, youâre game ready.
@GulfCoastHoo I like that breakdown. Good idea.
BRANDON MURRAY COME ON DOWN.
Doesnât have a degree does he?
