2023 NCAA Tournament Thread

I was just thinking- so this is what half a million gets you…even though Miami plays by different rules I can’t hate this team.

Feels like somehow Indiana didn’t get TJD enough shots even though he went 7-for-10 with 11 FTA, as Miami is vulnerable inside the arc, despite Omier’s presence.

Half a million just for Pack. Omier cost a pretty penny too since Miami got him over Kentucky and Arkansas (maybe for a discount since Omier is from the Miami area). And then everyone else on the roster had to get something to keep em happy.

Yep! They play like upset bid mid-majors as in they play small but with ACC level guards.

The ACC clearly underperformed this year but it’s still baffling how many teams the Big Ten gets in the tourney every year. Once again, only one team from the Big Ten makes the second weekend (and of course it’s Izzo…) out of eight teams from the Big Ten this year. Whatever models, algorithms, etc. the Committee looks at, they should be reviewed…

Yes, I wouldn’t trade this for a national championship, before that point is inevitably made. But damn, it would be nice to have some of this consistency. Maybe start with opening round wins regularly?

We are Jim L fans now. A former Terry Holland assistant and has always honored TB’s accomplishments. Lets go CANES. Bring it home for the ACC …

Man just saw how the TCU- Zags game ended. That game killed my 4 game parlay. Hurts a little more seeing how it was done.

Reminder: Don’t play parlays

Miami has a tough matchup, as Houston lines up pretty well against their strengths and weaknesses.

I have a Purdue fan on my team and just got PTSD hearing him describe the weekend. He said he blocked anyone that reached out to trash talk and didn’t watch another second of hoops. I told him it gets better once the tourney is over, but fact of the matter is it hurt for a LONG time.

Still remember how I felt that weekend and signing up for a marathon so I had an outlet away from sports. And I’m not a runner haha. We’ve all made peace with that loss given what happened next, but hearing how dejected he was really brought back some bad memories.

That’s a tough spot to be in for sure. I felt twinges of it on Thursday afternoon, but even that was not where near the feeling I had in '18. Honestly not sure anything short of the Nati washed away that one.

My now 19 year old might be a bigger UVa fan than me. He goes to VCU, but UVa is still his team…he’d cheer for them over the Rams I’m convinced.

After UMBC, it was a tough watching a 14 year old cry over a game…and I know how he felt because I wanted to. He fought us about going to school the Monday after the game because he knew he’d catch heat from other kids…and we didn’t live close to VA, so he’d have to do it alone.

The title the next year helped make UMBC more tolerable, but I do feel for the Purdue fans who will carry it for awhile…especially if there is no “all time turnaround championship” next year.

VTWBB might be able to fill that empty trophy case.

The GOAT’s team is still in the tournament.

My son was 10 when we lost to UMBC. I had to sleep on his floor that night. Yeah, that was rough.

Late in the Purdue-FDU game, they showed a boy, Purdue fan, maybe 8 or 9 years old, in the stands, looking stressed. Gave me flashbacks. Felt for the kid AND his dad. At least me and my boy were at home, not at the game.
