Figured as much. Only surprise was it took this long to announce. Former #1 point guard out of high school who randomly decommitted from Oregon and went to Pitt last year. Wonder if they start Jaland Lowe (who we briefly looked at) or if they have a transfer ready to step in.
Massive loss for Pitt, but itās what they get for gambling on him in the first place (the guy changed HSs and college commitments enough that he came with buy-in red flags) before deciding to stick by him after he beat up a girl on campus. Good riddance. Leaves Pitt with just two transfers (Rhode Islandās Ishmael Leggett and High Points Zach Austin) and two true freshmen (4 star Jaland 4 Lowe and 3 star Carlton Carrington) in their backcourt. Otherwise itās just all their incumbent bigs.
Based on some of the preseason polls, Iād actually put FAU as the answer to most overrated. Donāt get me wrong - I think FAU was a really good team last year, and they return mostly everyone (including their coach). So they will be very good. But they played above their head for one weekend at MSG, and pulled out 2 nice wins vs. Tenn and K-St. And some credit for keeping it tight v SDSU. But they also beat Memphis on a controversial call (right?) and then got lucky to get FDU in round 2. I think they proved theyāre a solid top 15ish coming into this season, but probably not top 10, and certainly not top 5.
Edit2 - Iām sort of vaguely curious how a G-League coaching gig stacks up. I mean, is it considered comparable to coaching at a low-mid major? You never hear about it, so I wonder if its on the radar at all.
Probably Toppert, right? Iāve heard his name as a good young coach, plus some NBA coaching experience (or G-league). I think Smith got some respect as a recruiter at Duke, but cāmon. Thatās like getting credit for being good at having money when youāre a Walton heir.
