2023 Virginia Football

How supportive? Like, do we really want our staff to be “fully” supportive of those decisions.

Coach, thinking of sitting out and transferring. What do you think?
Oh, I was hoping you’d say that!

Certainly a possibility. There is such a thing as addition by subtraction and there’s a world where CTE is a bit more subtle than say Deion

Yeah, true. Just seemed to be a funny way of saying it, or at least the reporter translating it

Agreed. I had the same thought/reaction

Remember the JMU game? Got open downfield twice and didn’t make a play on either ball thrown to him.

Outstanding track speed, not much for football instincts.

Would love him to stay on our track team. He’s a 10.6 100M guy. FAST (like Milledge, another guy who didn’t seem to have much in the way of instincts on the gridiron).

I have no idea who he is. I know like three football players. Just stirring the pot

That’s right I remember him now. He made no plays on the ball in the air. Just deadly fast.

9-routes all day. Works in a verticals concept because it pulls the deep safety in his direction. But sometimes the ball goes in his direction too, which has not been good.

Pace has two TDs on wheel routes this year. Maybe they should line him up at X using a fly or jet series. Get that kid outside the numbers.

He was overthrown twice. No plays to make

Barely. He didn’t even alligator-arm them. He was just striding and pumping.

Had he laid out for the first one, he would have had a chance. But he didn’t, so he didn’t.

CTB says he’s supportive of players’ decisions to transfer, too – even the ones he tries to talk into staying. Might just mean that both coaches want these young men to make the decisions that they think are best for them.

FWIW, I think Starling has potential, but he’s behind some young receivers who are further along in their development. He’s looking for playing time he’s not going to get at Virginia.

Second one likely had no shot. First one I agree with @lodger96 thought he could have had a diving effort or had another gear.

It’s possible he’s just that effortless with his running.

I wouldn’t read too much into the reporter summary statement. It might be that Elliott said something harmlessly generic like “We certainly hope he changes his mind, we’d love to keep him here, but I fully support the decisions these young men make for their futures…” yadda yadda

Come on I need something to sink my teeth into. I’m over the Kon watch on the basketball threads and if stirring the pot about CTE kicking a kid off the team then I’m here for it.

Elliott said that Starling believes he can find a better opportunity elsewhere, and he and staff will help Starling finish his degree and help him find that better fit.

I don’t know whether Elliott will end up being a good (or even decent) head guy — jury is still out after 13 games — but he’s a good (and decent) guy.

If it were Coach Prime, it’d be more like:

Reporter: Do you support Demick Starling’s decision?
Coach Prime: Who?

Legit curious what the market is for Starling. Entering his 5th year next year and not much to show from a resume standpoint. He’s got speed, but like someone said earlier he’s being out performed by the young guys on the roster so I wonder where he sees himself fitting in. Can’t image a P5 comes calling maybe a non-P5 has some cash to throw his way.

Can’t remember who mentioned the Ahmad Hawkins vs Chris Graham twitter battle the other day, but it has spilled over into the AFP rag now

I’m curious, but I’m not clicking any Augusta free press link. I don’t want to help pay those bills.
