If UVA is going to meaningully restrict our coaches more than our peer elite institutions do ⦠well then, I am quite ok with coaches openly blaming the admin/BOV for the losses. Let the PR battle commence.
good point. wonder if Jerry R got a scoop or this is on purpose from football leadership or VAF
I donāt think admissions itself is that much of a problem. What I meant by complexities. I know of a couple high school basketball recruits over the years who got into Maryland and VA Tech that UVA couldnāt touch, but itās not a big thing.
Transfers are the problem. I wonāt claim to know the ins and outs of it. But I think itās more of an issue of losing out on potential recruits because of academic complications. Like with Xavier Amos this past offseason. Admissions cleared him but he would have lost a bunch of credits, whereas that wasnāt as much of a problem at Wisconsin.
Then senior transfers are almost impossible because of the 60 credit rule. It only worked with Sam Hauser and Jayden Gardner because they planned to be at UVA two years anyway, Sam had to redshirt and Jayden had the extra covid year. I donāt know how it happened with Jalen Warley. I know some details of how things went down with Samā¦and it almost stopped him from coming.
I read that Warleyās plan was to still graduate from FSU. Basically transfer the UVa credits back to FSU.
Like a study abroad semester in Cville? Sounds kinda wacky, but thatās what some guy on another message board said.
(And if thatās true, Iām not sure to what extent he got the okay on that plan, or if it was more wink/nod-esque).
Letās stop a future Hoo ambassador from coming because why??
In current environment we never get Sam or Trey who right now are probably biggest public pro guys out there.
so UVAās 60 credit rule is more restrictive?
I think itās that other schools, even if they have similar policies, bend while UVA doesnāt. No idea what the rules are at Duke etc.
Thereās more to it than just that rule anyway. Itās just harder to transfer into UVA, not because of admissions necessarily but because they seem to accept fewer course credits from other schoolsā¦or they donāt fit into UVAās programs, whatever the case. Popular transfers have lots of options, they donāt need to deal with that.
And basketball to football is apples to oranges. Iām sure admissions standards are a much bigger issue in football just due to the number of players involved. Those couple of rare high school recruits I mentioned, it would be a frequent problem for football coaches.
Duke just knows so many guys wont be there long enough to dappen the Universities academic reputation. Which is smart by Duke.
Anecdotally I had some dual enrollment credits from a Virginia community college from high school and getting those credits accepted as the correct classes at UVa was an absolute nightmare. Ended up having to get a copy of my syllabus from my high school teacher and get it approved by someone in the math department.
They were not nice to me on getting credits in, but my jumper is terrible and I have a minus wingspan.
helpful explanation with some good nuance that Jerry R doesnt have. would make a good article
Itās National Signing Day 2024! Get hyped!!!
UVA is set to sign 18 student athletes today. According to 247, this class is ranked 13th in the ACC. Above Wake, Cal, Louisville, and UNC. In comparison, the '24 class was ranked 15th in the ACC, the '23 class 13th (of 14), and the '22 class 11th (of 14).
The average recruit rating for this yearās class, per 247, is 86.65. The average rating for the '24 class was 85.91, it was 85.40 in '23, and 85.06 in '22.
None of this yearās recruits are nationally ranked (top 500). All 18 recruits are rated as a 3 . Six recruits are from the state of Virginia.
We did flip a DB/KR/PR ā Salemās Josiah Persinger ā from JMU.
This kid has jets.
Looks like Santa Clause left us a lump of coal.
The quality of recruit has risen slightly over the course of Elliottās tenure. But just slightly. I donāt follow football recruiting that closely, but Iām not aware of any 4 s that we had any chance of getting. This new class is solidly average, and thatās not an awful thing ⦠but youād like to see at least one higher ranked kid in there.
The Spartans brother!
We need a talent upgrade and influx over current level. Our OL is a shambles. No depth across the 2 deep. QB slot is empty. Very tough sell right now. We will need some portal miracles.
This season is all about buying lottery tickets in the portal, and I donāt like our odds.
Proud Salem alum here! Canāt remember the last time UVA had a kid from Salem on scholarship. Itās been awhile
Iām sure this revelation will go over well and be calmly and coolly discussed amongst the fanbase.
