⚾ 2024 Baseball Offseason

I would expect him to go pro, always a chance he doesn’t but most of these organizations are taking college prospects because they know beforehand they’re gonna be able to get them to sign at these price ranges.

Looks like a very solid lineup.

Just didn’t think he would be drafted after not much playing time. Should’ve been playing over Bobby all season IMO. Still shocked he got drafted over guys who didn’t….

To be honest I’m surprised he got drafted as well. Pleasantly surprised, but figured the same that his lack of PT down the stretch of the season would lower his stock and see him back here next year.

I disagree to an extent with Whalen, in hindsight I would’ve liked to see Tony get more AB’s specifically in the postseason but I also understand the reasoning behind Bobby playing so much. His defense in CF and ability to cover a ton of ground taking away extra base hits was invaluable, and I mean at one point he was hitting above .400 overall and close to .500 against lefties. That’s a hard guy to take out of the lineup.

Once he hit his slump I think we at least should’ve resorted to platooning him with Tony like we did in the first half of the year but again hindsight is 20/20.

All fair points. Think I just wanted him back and liked his “swag” he carried.

I wonder if the number of arms potentially in front of TGA might factor into his decision. Obviously, money will be the biggest factor but we can’t exactly guarantee him a role day 1.

Blanco is the only sure thing in the rotation though.

I mean sure it’s hard to define a “sure thing” but assuming health, Blanco, Woolfolk, and O’Connor are likely to pitch a lot of innings. Plus there’s a good crop of returning underclassmen who should play bigger roles. There could and would certainly be a role for TGA (from a fan perspective, a hugely important role) especially beyond this year but if he’s on the fence, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s something he considered.

Fair, but Woolfolk had two good starts and O’Connor is coming off a major surgery.

That is such a ridiculously stacked lineup. Hoping Hanson improves and Teel lives up to his rep.

Regardless, I just saw an interview with him that says he’s gonna sign with the angels (seems odd for him to be saying that unless they’ve already put a number on the table).

Sorry for a somewhat elementary question, but has the transfer portal window closed for baseball? Normally wouldn’t be concerned about our guys returning, but never know these days with SEC NIL $ being thrown around.

It’s closed… 2 July…

Baseball players, even college ones, have been able to have agents as advisors for the draft forever.

As a result, there’s typically a continuous and seamless exchange of info between players and clubs prior to and during the draft about numbers.

Best part of the draft for me was seeing kids that my son played with or against get their names called, including Stephan. As a baseball parent, you see so many games and get to know so many players, and it’s remarkable how many of them are just really good kids. There’s camaraderie among them, even as rivals. This is such an exciting time, and I’m just so happy for them.

GOF and Stephan getting drafted were definitely my two favorite moments of the draft.

Stephan probably edges GOF out because it was only a matter of how high GOF was going to go.

@KarlHess found this one, we’ve added RHP Drew Koenen from Dartmouth as a transfer. Was a freshman this past season, had 16 appearances out of the bullpen where he went 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA along with 23 K’s and 7 BB’s in 24.2 IP.

6’3 210 lbs, reportedly throws mid 90’s. Would imagine he’s the replacement for Will Riley who we lost to the draft.

James Nunnallee is in the lineup tonight for the Cville Tom Sox.

It’s not a guarantee or anything, but typically if a player is planning on signing with whatever pro team drafted them you wouldn’t see them report to their college summer ball team. This coupled with BOC mentioning him in a Daily Progress article has me feeling more confident we’ll see him on Grounds this fall.

First way too early 2025 ranking I’ve seen has us at #6. Think that’s about right tbh, we should be really good but our ceiling will be determined by how our pitching staff comes together.

Well Ryan Prager announced he’s returning to A&M next season which means this poll is already out of date lol.
