Dickerson and TGA both signed record deals for their respective rounds, good on them for obtaining massive bags. Meccage is rumored to have signed but a number hasn’t been released, and we’ll have until August 2nd to see if the Brewers saved up enough money to make a run at Nunnallee.
UPDATE: Meccage has now signed, Nunnallee is the only one remaining. It’s looking like the Brewers might not be able to sign their 3rd round pick Chris Levonas (Wake commit, would be a huge get for them), which would open up a good amount of slot money to make a push for some of their later draft choices. We’ll have to see whether or not it makes a difference for Nunnallee.
The deadline for MLB draft picks to sign with the organizations that selected them has officially passed as of about 30 minutes ago.
News of deals will still be trickling in over the next couple of hours, but as it stands right now the Brewers have $585k remaining in slot money. I would assume that won’t be enough to sign Nunnallee unless the reports of his asking price being around $1m were very far off.
Just as a bit of a hype up on how big a deal it would be to get Nunnallee on Grounds, BOC has previously compared him to Kyle Teel in terms of his versatility and bat to ball skills. Would fully expect him to factor into our starting lineup (not sure where but he can play a bunch of different positions) and be the heir apparent at Catcher once Ference leaves.
Not saying I’m happy the kid isn’t likely to get paid what he was hoping for, but sounds good for us.
He’ll be fine, starting with his 2nd year here he’ll be on a full ride + potential NIL and then in 2027 if all goes well and he works his way into the top 2-3 rounds it’ll be a seven figure payout at minimum.
He’s a supreme talent who Kiley McDaniel had as a top 50 pick, am guessing he’s more than happy betting on himself and trying get his payday into first round range the next time he’s draft eligible.
They could field an excellent starting 9 with returnees if you include Teel and Walker Buchanan. You add to that Harris, Nunnallee and JC transfer Arroyo you just have awesome depth for platooning or to cover for injuries.
I’m hugely excited for Nunnallee. I didn’t think there was much chance we’d hang onto him through the draft, so I guess I’m higher on him than MLB scouts, but I think he could absolutely be a stud for UVA.
He (Nunnalee) got offered major money from multiple teams and turned it down. he was very highly thought of by MLB teams.
What’s major? Was it ever 1m+?
If anyone is looking for a more in-depth writeup on our incoming recruiting class, @KarlHess did a great job with this post over on TheSabre:
While I don’t have exact numbers on Nunnalee’s offer, it sounds like he was confident in betting on himself to improve his draft stock further down the line. His talent is clearly valued highly by scouts. I’m excited to see what he can do at UVA - it seems like he’ll be a great addition to an already strong team.
Great to hear, the hope is he follows in the footsteps of Kyle Teel and ends up as a top 15 pick by his third season. Big expectations with BOC making that comparison but he definitely has the talent to do so, plus one of the best hitting coaches in the country in KMac to help him along the way.
Team should be strong for years to come.
Meant to post about this a couple days ago, but it seems judging by his Instagram that Tommy Roldan suffered another serious knee injury this summer that required surgery. Heartbroken for him as it’s another major setback for a super talented kid, just hope he’s able to contribute at some point in a UVA uniform.
Shows how strong Lax and Baseball are at UVa…
Also… crazy about Utah… correct me if I’m wrong, but that program is only about 5 years old.
Well done Hoo fans.
Syracuse is kinda cheating though right? Huge stadium + what else is there to do in Syracuse?
Yep. The secret weapon of the Nebraska Cornhusker’s sports attendance numbers over the years.
I remember seeing an ESPN thing on Utah lacrosse about 5 or 6 yrs ago and they were in yr 1 or 2 at the time
