⚾ 2024 Baseball Offseason

A&M would have the money to cover the buyout.

Again I wouldn’t be concerned about this normally but the poster on TheSabre has me and others who follow the program closely to be at least slightly nervous.

Hard not to see how the CWS turned out as an SEC vs ACC referendum, and maybe seeing the SEC’s 4 teams easily run off the ACC’s 4, could unfortunately see Oak thinking he needs to get into the SEC if he wants the best shot to win it all again.

Of course maybe Carla just needs to get us in the SEC ASAP.

Easily run off? FSU wins if the coach keeps Whittaker in or they don’t blow the check swing call against Tenn. nc state was up in the 9th inning against Kentucky.

Referendum in final results only… it helped the SEC that the #1 team and National Champions were on the bracket side where 3 ACC teams were. Feeds the narrative forsure.

I mean, how much can they seriously pay him more than what we are?? Can we not match the offer?? It’s that far out of reach?

They’d be able to pay him significantly more. Comparative to his standing as a coach we’ve got BOC on a massive bargain here.

Then the least we can do is go all in, as far as we can. We may not be able to match them but we gotta be willing to pay as much as we can.

I’m not a lawyer nor do I work in HR, but most executive-level contracts have either non-compete clauses or severe financial penalties for breaking the contract within the first year. I can’t imagine we signed a contract with O’Connor that didn’t have one or the other or both.

If it was just a verbal agreement, I could see someone breaking that for JR Ewing money. But this was a signed contract, I don’t care how long Daniel Plainview’s milkshake straw is.

I mean even if it’s a vicious buy out TAMU can pay it. SEC+Oil money is almost impossible to top. And if it’s a no compete we’re not suing BOC

A&M spent $7 mil on Jimbo’s buyout and have an $80 mil renovation project planned for their baseball program. Any financial hoops they’d have to work through to get O’Connor would be a drop in the bucket to their athletic department and donor pool.

Money hasn’t been the main driving force for BOC in the past, and that’s what we’re hoping stays true here.

FWIW the most recent smoke seems to be around Dan Heefner from Dallas Baptist taking the job. But am uncertain as to the validity of those rumors.

Pretty sure this would be the first time a UVA coach left for a “better” situation.

Hope this guy is in the loop

I’d clarify first UVA coach lost directly to a peer college coaching position. Bruce Arena went MLS, and Boland took the gig with USTA.

Gonna be getting an answer one way or the other.

More and more smoke about it being Heefner coming in. Hopefully it’s true.

Yeah, TAM board posters seem to mostly want O’C but think it’ll be Heefner. They’d be very happy with either, though.
