⚾ 2024 Baseball

Our guys do well in NIL for baseball, it’s not to the level of an LSU or Tennessee but it’s solid. I think generally the NIL pool is used more for the transfer portal anyway by top tier programs, most of these highly ranked HS guys are making big time money if they’re getting drafted that I’d imagine only a few select schools would be able to match with consistency. LSU was able to land Cam Johnson who was ranked 11th in the 2023 class so to your point NIL probably played a factor, but they’re very much an outlier that we’re never going to be able to compete with on that front.

Slotted bonus for the 100th pick is 667K and 150th is about 400K.

There’s no way we have enough NIL to compete with that. Even if we did, most times it’s better for the kid to get into the minor league system and get full time pro coaching.

Our baseball NIL is best used for making up the difference between partial scholarships and the cost of a full ride.

Perfect Game is cranking out some preseason content now.

Hoos were ranked 10th in their preseason Top 25. That was second in the ACC behind top ranked Wake.

Griff O’Ferrall was 2nd Team Pre Season All American at SS.

Tennis and Field Hockey are my go to sports

No shame in having a well rounded athletic department. If we only cared about one or two sports we might as well be VT fans.

Baseball team should be really good, and I’d argue that catching a game at The Dish is some of the most fun you can have as a UVA fan. Seeing some postseason baseball live again for the first time in a while was an absolute blast last year, hope we can all do it again in 2024.

Looking forward to the Hoos playing VCU in Richmond again. Went last year and the Diamond was pretty full. Would guess 2/3 UVa fans even though a home game for VCU.

I don’t hate swimming I just don’t care about it and want believe the program is occupying valuable space that could be used otherwise

The 2025 baseball season opener was announced this past week.

The Hoos will be opening in Puerto Rico in an eight team event: UVA, Missouri, Michigan, Penn State, UCONN, Villanova, Rice, and Stetson.

No word on format or matchups yet but should be a fun event. Would assume we’ll get in three games. Hopefully they make it a tourney so we can bring home a trophy.

Big baseball guy here. Keep an eye for my nephew - Walker Buchanan. He’s a first year on the team. Was on our HS Team last year which had seven D-1 commits . We also had Freddy Beruvides and Tristan Head on the team. All first year dudes at UVA. 3 guys who can flat-out play - all committed together. Here’s an article from last spring about it.

Head and Buchanan’s hometown is Jupiter, FL. Same as Pavin Smith. Here’s to them making as big an impact as he did.

Clever that I am, I guessed right away that the tall one was your nephew. Hope he gets to see the field. You should have fun with that.
